They have good strength and the "magnet" has a handle that makes it easy for a kid to hold. The kit includes a lot of small pick up pieces that can get lost. The magnet can pick up all the included pieces and then some.

It was an instant hit, in fact, some of the guests spent most of the party by the refrigirator, putting together the periodic table. I think it's an excellent gift for anyone with the appreciation of natural sciences or for a student. It doesn't hurt that the magnets look cute and with their bright colors they have a decorative effect as well. I think this company makes a host of house products with educational theme. I am looking forward to checking them out.
