Got one of these a few years back as we had a couple of experiences with the basement refrigerator door left ajar and later failure (no alarm feature). Have been very happy with it, except that the alarm is not very loud. Seems to be a common comment on other alarm thermometers.
One feature that pulls me to this particular model (besides matching the one I already have) is the "buffered" probe. The bottle of glycol averages the temperature measurements a bit so that short durations with the door open don't cause a spike and alarm.
The probe wire is small enough to not cause a problem of air/humidity leakage through magnetic door seals.
By the way, the description may not be clear: the alarm can be disabled via a slide switch on the back.
It is somewhat unfortunate that this is not offered as a dual fridge/freezer meter.
Am adding 3 of these to my wish list for upcoming birthday for additional fridge/freezers.
At the time of this review, I see the same thermometer on Amazon with 2 different brand names (VWR, Fisher Scientific) for sale by 3rd parties only. So the brand and sellers may change over time. If so, look for the probe in the green bottle and the "Traceable" label above the LCD display. Price is around $50.
