(More customer reviews)There may be better instant read thermometers out there, but this has always done the trick for me, whether it's testing the water in baking bread or quickly finding out whether a roast is done. Its slender needle goes into hunks of meat quickly, and the whole thing is light enough that, if you are concerned that your burgers on the grill are properly cooked, you can easily put this in your pocket as you head to the back yard. Small note of caution for other dummies like me: the dial is under a plastic window, and so the whole thing should not go -in- the oven. For that, you want a meat thermoeter with a glass face.

After reading articles about bacterial growth in refrigerated products, and how bacteria continues to grow as products slowly freeze in the freezer, yuck, I knew it was time to get an accurate reading. I have been guilty of turning the fridge down [warmer] to save electricity, or to kill the noise, but probably was just encouraging mold, spoilage and potential problems. The Polder arrived today and in 5 minutes I knew exactly how cold the refrigerator was in all areas, and the freezer. Both were set too warm. There is a blue safety area indicator on the Polder face in the acceptable 40 degree-ish range for the refrigerator. I have readjusted the settings and feel much relieved. In a power outage this could be one of the most useful tools in the house. It's a very sturdy, well-made product, like something from when products were made well and to last. This looks like it will outlast me. At this price, I recommend everyone invest in one. Better safe than sorry.

I placed both in my freezer for 4 hours and after that time they had diverged by 8 full degrees F. Is one wrong? Are both wrong? I really have no way of knowing. (More customer reviews)This thermometer has large clear numbers and is easy to read at a glance. My refrigerator has glass shelves, so I'm not able to hang it anywhere, but the hook folds down behind it and becomes a little stand, so I'm able to place it where ever I want it. I was hoping to be able to also place it in the freezer compartment sometimes, but it gives an error code whenever the temperature gets below 32 degrees. It would have been helpful if the directions that came with it had explained why it randomly shows "LLL", but I had to figure that out the hard way. But all in all, I like it, but I don't love it.

Refrigerator/Freezer Thermometer w/Alarm (-50°c-70°C) () Review

(More customer reviews)Got one of these a few years back as we had a couple of experiences with the basement refrigerator door left ajar and later failure (no alarm feature). Have been very happy with it, except that the alarm is not very loud. Seems to be a common comment on other alarm thermometers.
One feature that pulls me to this particular model (besides matching the one I already have) is the "buffered" probe. The bottle of glycol averages the temperature measurements a bit so that short durations with the door open don't cause a spike and alarm.
The probe wire is small enough to not cause a problem of air/humidity leakage through magnetic door seals.
By the way, the description may not be clear: the alarm can be disabled via a slide switch on the back.
It is somewhat unfortunate that this is not offered as a dual fridge/freezer meter.
Am adding 3 of these to my wish list for upcoming birthday for additional fridge/freezers.
At the time of this review, I see the same thermometer on Amazon with 2 different brand names (VWR, Fisher Scientific) for sale by 3rd parties only. So the brand and sellers may change over time. If so, look for the probe in the green bottle and the "Traceable" label above the LCD display. Price is around $50.

We purchased three of these to use in the refrigerators in our church as required by the county health department. They seem to be accurate and are fairly easy to read. Since our refrigerator shelves are glass, they tend to get pushed around by food items items. We will most likely use some mounting tape to stick them to the back or side wall instead. They are a good product at a very reasonable price.

The freezer chest transmitter is located on the basememt floor about 10' (below)from the receiver on the main floor and the 2nd transmitter is in my frige on the same floor (2nd) within 15'. (More customer reviews)The thermometer and probe seem to be well made but it didn't work very well with my upright freezer. As others mentioned, the alarm is not loud enough unless you're fairly close to the unit but the biggest problem is the probe wire. It is round, about 2 mm in diameter and my freezer door will not seal tightly around it. Within 2 days, my manual defrost freezer had a block of ice forming where the wire came through the seal due to humid air leakage. I've seen other units that use thinner flat wire which I suspect would work better.

(More customer reviews)We bought this alarm because we have young kids who love to be independent and help out by getting their own ice and food. Since our indoor freezer is a bottom pull-out, they can get into it easily. We also have an upright freezer in the garage. We had one week where a freezer was left open three times. This alarm has helped tremendously.
We are using both sensors in the two freezers. They come pre-programmed with min/max settings, one for the refrigerator and one for the freezer. It is very simple to change those settings though and the directions were clear.
I really like that it has a fifteen-minute delay before the alarm sounds. That is, the temperature has to be above the set point for 15 minutes before the alarm is triggered. That feature prevents false alarms when a 3-year old is having trouble deciding which ice cube is the perfect one for his juice.
I wish I had known that for freezer use you need to use lithium batteries (AA) as they work at lower temperatures versus alkaline. We didn't have any on hand and so had to wait to install the units. Extra trips to the store are a pain and I would have just ordered 4 (2 for ea) when I bought the unit if I had known.

(More customer reviews)I love this thermometer. It measures both freezer and refrigerator temperatures and gives you current readings plus weekly averages for each. The sticky stuff on the back of the main unit actually works, even with refrigerator moisture, so the unit stays out of the way and you don't have to worry about it getting knocked over or shoved to the back or sideways where you can't see it. It takes AAA batteries, so no special batteries required. It also matches my favorite non-digital refrigerator thermometer in terms of accuracy and has helped me to discover that there is a 10 degree difference in temperature between my refrigerator's top and bottom shelves, so now I store things more appropriately and can be assured of food safety. This is a great product.

Taylor Digital Stick On Refrigerator Thermometer Review

as to the temperature in each compartment. Moistened the suction cup
per instructions and affixed it to the freezer door's interior, set at
the recommended mid-range temperature. Checked the temp the next morning and it registered 17 degrees fahrenheit. Had to take a plastic knife to
pry the suction cup off of interior freezer door. I next placed this
thermometer inside the refrigerator door, about chest level above the one-
gallon storage shelf for easy viewing. Again with refrigerator temp set at the recommended mid-range temperature, I returned to check on the temp the following morning and it registered from 38.7 to 41.5 degrees fahrenheit depending on late night door openings. Periodically repeated this phase of refrigerator testing for a month to confirm the absence of
sporadic readings. No problem with the suction cup dislodging from the
interior refrigerated surfaces. Great buy for the low cost ..... all is
needed is to replace the button cell lithium battery and you can regularly monitor the cooling capability of your refrigerator/freezer and additionally give you an early warning sign of when you need to purchase a newer, more reliable appliance.
