Koolatron Vending Fridge-Silver Review

Koolatron Vending Fridge-Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this about a year ago, it was very, very discounted. (How about $10. seriously!)
The unit has the ability to vend two different 12oz can products. It holds four cans for each product. It works almost like a real vending machine. The coin slot really works, it has a refrigeration unit, and it does dispense product.
It worked fine for eleven months. Unfortunately, the power board went bad. This makes the whole unit inoperable.
I contacted Koolatron, they offered to send a replacement board for $50.
Oh well, for $10 it was fun while it lasted.

Mighties Magnets 16 Pack Review

Mighties Magnets 16 Pack

They're so small and innocuous-looking in the package. But open 'em up, get 'em near an appliance and BAM! Those little suckers slammed onto the Frigidaire with such force that I was genuinely startled. They're so tiny that my husband has trouble prying them up with his big, meaty fingers. As magnets go, they come highly recommended. Obviously not for the wee ones who haven't yet learned not to stick inedible objects in their various orifices.

Prepara Herb Savor Pod Review

Prepara Herb Savor Pod

This product works great for me. I hate spending money on herbs just to use a little and have the rest go bad shortly after. I put some herbs (mostly basil) in here and they were fresh for a few weeks! No leakage probs either, the bottom is clearly labeled to twist to lock and the plug stays flush.
This thing has already paid for itself in money saved and looks pretty cool in my fridge and on the counter when I'm ready to cook.

Polder THM-560N Fridge/Freezer Thermometer, Stainless Steel Review

Polder THM-560N Fridge/Freezer Thermometer, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Was my refrigerator cold enough? Was the freezer? After reading articles about bacterial growth in refrigerated products, and how bacteria continues to grow as products slowly freeze in the freezer, yuck, I knew it was time to get an accurate reading. I have been guilty of turning the fridge down [warmer] to save electricity, or to kill the noise, but probably was just encouraging mold, spoilage and potential problems. The Polder arrived today and in 5 minutes I knew exactly how cold the refrigerator was in all areas, and the freezer. Both were set too warm. There is a blue safety area indicator on the Polder face in the acceptable 40 degree-ish range for the refrigerator. I have readjusted the settings and feel much relieved. In a power outage this could be one of the most useful tools in the house. It's a very sturdy, well-made product, like something from when products were made well and to last. This looks like it will outlast me. At this price, I recommend everyone invest in one. Better safe than sorry.

Danby DWC283BLS 3.5-Cu.Ft. 30-Bottle Free-Standing Wine Cooler, Black/Stainless Review

Danby DWC283BLS 3.5-Cu.Ft. 30-Bottle Free-Standing Wine Cooler, Black/Stainless
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying that this is the one of the worst products I have ever purchased. And I say that with all honesty. I bought this for my wife as a Christmas present a little over 1 year ago.
My list of problems are as follows (in chronological order):
1)The unit was EXTREMELY noisy since new, to the point where guests would comment about it from 2 rooms away. I was willing to live with this if this were the only problem.
2) I have experienced Heavy condensation on the outside of the glass door. The condensation was so bad that it left a puddle 2' in diameter on the wood floor in my dining room. So Bad that I built a pedestal with a tray under it to catch the condensation and not ruin the floor.
3) POOR service on a scale of 1-10 (10 being Excellent) they are a -30. Absolutely HORRIBLE. I contacted Danby's customer service department, after 5 calls I was able to get someone in person, to try and get the condensation issue resolved. they referred me to the local service rep for my area (12 miles South of Boston) who refused to come out to come out and fix the problem. They would not even schedule an appointment. After getting a different service rep to honor the warrantee and waiting 2 weeks for an appointment, they refused to provide any service. Both the Service rep and Danby stated that this was a "Normal" condition and that people called with similar problems "All the time". There is no way that if you buy a Wine Cooler like this that you should have to worry about it ruining the floor on which it sits!!! This was absolutely infuriating!!
4) After the service (if you want to call it that) FIASCO, I was surprised to find the door of the unit popped open. Upon investigating open door, I found one of my favorite bottles of wine with the cork popped out due to being FROZEN!! That's right FROZEN!! Can't tell you how long it was like that because due to the noise the unit makes, I placed it in a corner that is out of the way and thereby not in the direct line of sight. It seems the electronics are stuck and the unit will not shut off. The temperature display shows E3 which I assume is an error (no reference in the Manual) I am going to call Danby again to try and get this new issue resolved, as the cooler is still under warrantee.
5) I was able to get the unit to reset on my own by letting the fridge sit overnight unplugged. The only thing I can think of is that there was Ice built up on the thermocouple that controls the bottom half of the unit and that was causing the error code, the unit did function properly for 2 mos after the the event listed in item number 4. But Danby still refuses to service the product.
This is an absolute piece of @*&%^&^^. DON'T waste your money!!! If I seem harsh, take that as an indication of the quality of the product. Don't get caught in the same trap I did. The cooler looks nice and that is all it does nicely.
UPDATE:
After having this unit freeze my wine TWICE and ruining 8+ bottles of wine, I have decided to THROW IT AWAY!!! I ordered another unit from Sears tonight after finding my wine frozen for a SECOND time. Danby refuses to support their product. I can't remember a purchase I regret more. Danby's service is abysmal and the product is garbage!!! Please learn from my mistake. The only reason this product gets 1 star is because Amazon will not let a reviewer put in 0 stars.

Whirlpool : GI7FVCXWQ 27 cu. ft. Bottom Mount Refrigerator - White
Average Reviews:

This refrigerator started having problems from the very first day. There was too much water condensation in the area around the ice maker. In certain areas outside of the icemaker, there was ice build-up. The seal between the icemaker and the ice holder was not working properly. There was a lot of water condensation between the two doors in the area around the seals. The service people who came to look at this said these problems were not normal. They said two major parts have to replaced. I have decided to replace this with a brand new model instead on having the one we bought serviced. I hope the new one works okay. If not, I am going to cancel the order and buy another refrigerator. It is a very expensive model (more than $ 2,500) and should have these problems like this.

After three years of service, the fridge quit cooling properly. My new house came with all new Maytag appliances, which I thought was good because they would last. First the Microwave blew it's controller board six months ago, now the fridge quit working and one of the burners on the Maytag glass top stove won't heat.
I would encourage folks to buy anything OTHER than Maytag. These new products are expensive pieces of garbage.
The Maytag repair man apparently got schizophrenia and was promoted to director of quality and design!

Vinotemp VT-21TEDS Thermo-Electric Digital Dual-Zone 21-Bottle Wine Chiller, Black and Stainless Review

Vinotemp VT-21TEDS Thermo-Electric Digital Dual-Zone 21-Bottle Wine Chiller, Black and Stainless
Average Reviews:

The unit has a nice feature of being able to store white and red wines at your selected temp. The size is very good and was perfect for the area we wanted to place it. It holds the selected temp just fine but if the power is interupted you will need to reset your settings. It does have a few shortcomings... It is much louder than a standard fridge given it's size. The shelves that you must use to remove a bottle don't fit very well at all and they will drop out of their slots while in use. These wood shelves are all very cheaply made. The LED lights inside are all but useless. The door must be opened fully (180 degrees) in order to slide out a shelf to remove the bottle. We have a GE unit in another location that is a much better unit but only has single selected temp. It did cost nearly twice what this unit did.
If/when it dies I will not replace it with this brand or model. It proved to point that you get what you pay for.

Accommodating up to 21 bottles, this freestanding wine chiller features two zones that can be individually set for accurately controlling the temperature of both red and white wine. Its innovative thermo-electric cooling system, which involves very few moving parts, delivers ultra-quiet, energy-efficient operation and protects wine from unnecessary vibration. More importantly, thermo-electric cooling does not use ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFC's or HCFC's, which means it's better for the environment. In addition, the wine-cooling unit's dual-paned glass door provides better UV protection and better insulation properties for enhanced energy efficiency. Other highlights include a digital display with push-button operation, wood pull-out shelves, and an easy-to-clean design. Attractively housed in a black cabinet with stainless-steel trim, the wine chiller measures 21-1/2 by 13-1/2 by 32-1/8 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

KitchenAid KFCS22EVMS Architect II Series Energy Star Counter Depth French Door Review

KitchenAid KFCS22EVMS Architect II Series Energy Star Counter Depth French Door
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I want to hug this thing every morning! But I won't- that way lies madness. Besides, I don't think DH would like it. Why am I so happy? Because..I had a 25 year old, noisy Sub Zero for which I could no longer find parts. It had to go. Unfortunately, we had remodeled the kitchen around it. So I thought I was stuck with another Sub Zero. Why do I say "stuck"? Aren't Sub Zeros the very best? Well, call me a rube , but to me it was essentially a shinier, shallower, taller, louder version of my cheap Sears fridge in the basement. Not to mention that a new Sub Zero costs over $8000, for Pete's sake!
What to do? Enter the KitchenAid counter depth French door fridge. Fantastic. For about $6000 less I have a fridge that takes up less space but has more room inside.(It's magic!) The counter depth fits perfectly in the space where the Sub Zero loomed. The KitchenAid is pretty and quiet and well organized on the inside. Now I have a new, quiet, (did I mention quiet?) fridge with more room inside. It has an interior filtered water dispenser, an excellent deli drawer,(wide and shallow so you can see everything) see -thru veggie bins, and even a neat little scoop in the ice bin. The doors open and close independently of one another. I also like having two smaller doors instead of one heavy door. The water filter is within easy reach in the top of the fridge.
The freezer is also well organized. The ice bin can be rolled out of the way to make use of the space beneath. The freezer also has bins which might , for example, keep melted Popsicle goo from leaking all over the freezer and the floor and the ceiling beneath. Just in case.
AND my cabinet maker is going to put a new shelf in the space that opened up over the KitchenAid. (The Sub Zero was 12" inches taller). I finally have a place to store those huge trays my mother gave me for Christmas. More fridge taking up less space for less money- what's not to like?

I should have known better! My old Kenmore died and I bought this noxious import because it a) fit in a 32" nook; b) I didn't want an ice maker; and c) it looked great. ("Sleek European styling") I didn't know that it has a DC compressor and emits a constant whine (or bass hum, buzz or hum, depending on the cycle). At its worst it is like having a truck idling in your kitchen. But you always hear it. The noise kicks in even if you haven't opened the door in an hour, and cycles last from 30 minutes to what seems like hours. The sales rep I finally reached via the escalation dept. confirmed that it's not a question of decibels, but of frequency. As for noise complaints I found after it was too late, he reluctantly admitted that, yes, there are some people who find the noise really disturbing. Or as the repairman told me, "I know it's loud, but that's normal for this thing. That's just the way they make them these days," he said, and showed me how the high speed compressor was attached to the back of the machine with a few screws and with absolutely nothing to soften the sharp whine it makes most of the time. My Kenmore rumbled a bit but it never, ever made that awful shrill piercing relentless whine. I can hear it in my office or bathroom adjacent to the kitchen but not upstairs or in the shower. I can't even imagine what this thing would be like in an apartment!
These new compressors are a known issue, which is something I wish I'd found out before I bought this thing from Albert Lee appliances in Seattle. You'll find complaints about GE, Frigidaire, Kenmore and others. But at 17.3 cf, most of them are half the price of this sleek European mediocrity.
Not everyone is sensitive to noise. If you're oblivious to tv test patterns, dentists drills, high tension wires or a speaker when you leave the stereo on, you might think it was pricey but okay. At least it's prettier than the white molded plastic you usually see.
But if you think that hearing your fridge when you're in another room at twice the price, either buy a mid-priced fridge with the same or more features, or get a Sub Zero for $3,000, and steer clear of Fisher & Paykel products. This is by far the worst appliance I have ever owned.

Whirlpool : GS6NHAXVY 36 25.6 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator - Monochromatic Stainless Steel Review

Whirlpool : GS6NHAXVY 36 25.6 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator - Monochromatic Stainless Steel

We purchased this fridge three months ago to replace an older GE Profile fridge. We are overall happy with the fridge although there has been one consistent issue with the ice maker.
Note: This fridge is overall the same as the all stainless model except the sides are painted a matching gray (instead of the sides being complete stainless). Having seen the paint I don't know why anyone opts for the "full wrap" expense as it looks great either way.
Pros:
-Looks: Very nice looking, overall the front fit and finish of this fridge is excellent. The build quality throughout is on par with any fridge in the class.
-Energy efficient: This system is a very energy efficient fridge. As a matter of fact it's rated as about as energy efficient a fridge as you can buy in the states (estimated annual cost to run around $65)
-Excellent features: The measuring water dispenser, options for lighting, cooling, etc on the front control panel are easy to use and well designed. The large container fill spout works great.
-Bins: This thing has huge bins and they are very easy to see in to.
Cons:
-Ice Maker: The in-door ice maker is good. It makes a lot of ice. The problem is that the fill spout on ours (where the water fills the freeze tray) seems to ice up pretty consistently which causes water to rain down in the freezer and coat everything. This requires a complete many many hour defrost to get all the clogged ice bits to thaw and drip out. I'm pretty upset about this as this is a $2,000+ fridge
-Space: Not as roomy as our old GE. I believe this is because of the shelf layout in the fridge. Overall it's good but not excellent. We have always felt like it needed another shelf.
-Silly can holder: American fridges seem to be packed with soda can holders these days (much like cars). This fridge is not ludicrous in the number it has (like some). However the can holder at the top of the fridge door is almost completely useless. The way it holds cans (not that we have any!) is such that if the door is opened or closed quickly the cans fall out (and on your toes or food). My wife tried yogurt and a number of things up there but since the slots are can shaped and we don't really drink beer or soda from cans.. it's a useless shelf
-In-door shelf space: Our old GE Profile could hold a huge amount in it's door. This fridge holds much less. I'm not sure if it's all the space lost to smooth shelf angles or what but we had a heck of time time transplanting what easily fit in our GE to the Whirlpools door.
All in all I like the fridge. Fridges in this class are a balancing act of space, looks, features (ice maker etc), and how you like to store things (french vs side by side vs over-under). This is a good "premium" grade fridge that I would buy over a KitchenAide any day. Although with the ice maker problems in the first three months I'm wishing I'd have opted for the GE (in the same price band).
On a side note Whirlpool has an EXCELLENT online FAQ support section on their website that has cured more than a few of our little "what the heck?!" moments and turned them in to "OH I GET IT!".

Overall I like the fridge- with its LED water dispenser and clear side trays. However, this refrigerator is criminally small, even for a fridge in its size (22 cu. feet). We have to store our sodas and wine bottles outside since only a few will fit in this fridge at the same time. I am constantly scanning the little shelves, since there is not enough storage in the fridge, and I have no choice but to try to jam things in to fit.
Maytag would be wise to spend a few extra pennies and make this a larger fridge until then I would pass on it.

Electrolux : EI23CS55GS 22.5 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator w/IQ-Touch - Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

This refrigerator looks beautiful. It will grace your kitchen with beauty.
BUT, here is a list of my problems w/ the fridge:
1-Water dispenser: our fridge water dispenser worked great for about 6 months. Then, from one day to the next, the water dispenser ceased functioning. I changed the filter (as the owners manual specified to do). Which was a $55 fix (the filters aren't especially cheap). That didn't work. Turns out the water line in the door runs too close to the inside of the freezer and it freezes solid. The only fix is a new door. We got a new door on Christmas eve, and by 1/2 the water line was frozen again. It's a design flaw.
2-Love the glass shelves, but don't put your milk gallons on them. We have a number of scratches on the shelf where we put the milk. Putting milk in the door is very awkward for me.
3-The chill drawer freezes stuff - regardless of the temp set. It's the one in the middle that looks like a cold cut drawer - it's not. It will freeze cans of soda (a mistake on my part) and they can explode in there and make a big, hard to clean mess. No matter the temp setting I select for this drawer, it freezes everything. I've limited what goes in that drawer to alcoholic beverages (that won't freeze). So I lose the space of an entire drawer.
4-Bottom (veggie/crisper) drawers do not come out. Can't wipe out the back. Doesn't get messy down there too much, but it's something I like to do periodically. Frustrating.
Am currently waiting for another tech to come out and look at the door. But no matter how many times they come out, the water dispenser will freeze solid again and again because of said design flaw.
All that being said, the freezer does freeze, the fridge also refrigerates. But for the huge amount of $$ spent on the fridge, the functionality issues make me crazy. Could have saved a lot of $$ and gotten a plain fridge that does just the same thing. I would definitely not buy one again, nor would I suggest them to anyone I know to purchase. There have been multiple service calls about the fridge.
I had such high hopes for this fridge - and frankly I feel duped. Thought for the $$ that it would be great. At the time of purchase I couldn't find any reviews on it (Jan of 2009). Hopefully this will help you in your selection. I just wanted it to do what it was supposed to do.

I knew this was a generic, so that didn't bother me. The filters were shipped out quickly and received promptly. The description says these are a match for the Amana 46-9904 filter, which is the one we use in our fridge. However, when we got them, they didn't fit properly and water was spraying everywhere. On the plus side the company gave us no hassle about returning them (except we had to pay shipping back). The company was very responsive and good to work with. So the one star is for the product, not the company.

Amana : AFI2538AEB 24.9 Cu. Ft. Refrigerator - Black Review

Amana : AFI2538AEB 24.9 Cu. Ft. Refrigerator - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our Amana Side-by-Side stopped cooling late in the afternoon the day before Thanksgiving. We bought ice and stuffed the fridge, then rushed to shop before the stores closed. This is not the way I like to shop. I like to do research first. But because we must keep Insulin chilled but not frozen we didn't have the luxury of research time and Internet shopping.
I knew I wanted this style because I love bottom freezers, it is easy to see items in the back, and it is energy efficient.
None of the stores we were able to get to before closing time carried this model. I found that most brands had freezer drawers that were extremely difficult to open. Some I couldn't open at all.
I was worried about buying American because I knew Whirlpool had bought the companies and we once had a Whirlpool that was nothing but trouble. Our son bought a bottom-freezer Amana after the company had been purchased by Whirlpool. He said he was pleased with it, had had no problems, and was told when he bought it that Amana still makes the machine; Whirlpool only makes the visible exterior.
I have recommended Amana to family and friends so the only question was could I open the drawer? Yes! The floor model was tight; the one on my new fridge is easier to open even when fully loaded. The freezer has 2 upper drawers for easy access to the foods you use most frequently. They slide.
The big surprise was inside the refrigerator section. The left side has 6 special holders for soda or beer cans. This saves a lot of shelf space. The right door has a special place for 2 gallons of milk. Shelves are adjustable. There are 2 crisper drawers and a deli drawer. To use the deli drawer you have to open both doors. The lights are bright. The water filter is up front so it's easy to replace. It's large so it should last quite a while. The fridge will tell you when the filter needs to be replaced. There's an alarm to warn you the doors aren't closed. It went off as we were loading the fridge. It's loud enough to hear across the room but it doesn't blast you out of the house.
This model provides ice and water through the door. You can select water only, cubes only, or both together. The temperature control is also on the outside. There is a child lock to prevent children and large dogs from playing with the water dispenser. (Yes, dogs sometimes press their noses to it. We have a friend who has a curious Great Dane.)
This refrigerator is quiet! Amana is not known for quiet refrigerators, only good ones. Insulation is great. It hardly runs but maintains temperature perfectly.
What you will miss are an egg container and a large ice container. I miss the crushed ice my previous Amana had. And I believe a side-by-side freezer holds more than this drawer. Both my Amanas are 25 cubic feet total but I don't know the freezer measurements.
The exterior does not show fingerprints!

I bought my house, and found that the previous owners had done their own kitchen remodel which left a really strange size cutout for the fridge. It took me weeks to find this one which (as far as I can tell) is the only counter depth and narrow refrigerator. Anyway, it is a good fridge. No complaints. The fridge is cool looking, but the only reason that I can think someone would buy this one is for size. If you aren't restricted by size, I would look at a wider fridge.
Good things to know... There is an inline water filter (works good, easy to change), ice maker doesn't take up too much room, the fridge is counter depth (they don't advertise it as such but you can tell by the dimensions and the back is flat). The inside is small but the fridge doesn't look freakishly small. Oh, the ice maker is temperamental; it doesn't bother me but if you love ice this could be a problem.
Almost no one carries these; if you need to "see" it I found a Samsung at the big box retailers that is about the same size. If more than two people live in your house, or you like to buy big soda bottles, etc., maybe take a peek at something with similar dimensions before you buy.
