Oxo Good Grips Bag Clips, Set of 4 Review

Oxo Good Grips Bag Clips, Set of 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I just love these things! I have had this set for about 4 years and not one has broken. I use them for chips as well as freezer items.
Another feature that I enjoy is not having to dig through a kitchen drawer to find them since they stick to the fridge.
*******
Update 11/07/08
After 4 years I still have three of the 4 clips. Only one has broken and since they stick to the fridge I have not even lost one of the clips. This to me is impressive!

FoodSaver FSFRBZ0326 1-Gallon Zipper Food-Storage Bags, 22 Count Review

FoodSaver FSFRBZ0326 1-Gallon Zipper Food-Storage Bags, 22 Count
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wasn't sure I would buy more bags after initially trying the Freshsaver. I already own the "real" Foodsaver and use it often for freezer storage. But I was looking for something to extend the life of opened packages of cheese, meat, and vegetables in the refrigerator. It does not work as well as the "real" vaccuum packaging, but it does remove enough air to give me a few more days before something needs to be thrown away. And I can keep re-opening it and closing it throughout the week.
With the price of fresh produce what it is, the cost of the bags is paid for rather quickly, especially if I get a few uses out of them. I have a sort of a system where I use the bag the first time with a dry product that comes out of the bag with little residue. If I am sealing something smelly and kind of moist (like thinly sliced red onions, which I slice once a week and keep for various uses) I grab a used bag because it is going to smell of onions too much to use another time.
That was the long way of saying that I found I missed having them after running out of my sample bags and I re-ordered. I do keep the Freshsaver Unit right out on the countertop plugged in and ready to go. That is the only way to use it- tucked away in a drawer I would never bother to take it out, plug it in and use the bags as intended.

CorningWare French White 6-Piece Cooking and Baking Set Review

CorningWare French White 6-Piece Cooking and Baking Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned French White for years and years, and they were the first casserole dish I always reached for. We had a mishap, broke my 10+ year old large oval casserole and replaced it with a new full set.
What a disappointment!!! CorningWare has changed something in their process or raw materials. The new dishes have tiny little "pits" in them that allows water to penetrate underneath the glaze. It looks unsightly when serving. The heft and feel aren't the same. Neither is the quality. You can tell the new pieces, as the bottoms have a ridge molded into the base. The older pieces are completely flat.
Using the new large oval dish, my adult daughter removed a full dish on lasagna from the oven and set it on a room temperature (burners turned off)stove top to cool. The dish shattered into pieces, and we had to throw everything out. CorningWare sent a replacement at no charge. The new dish has the same defects as the one that shattered.
I've been shopping at thrift stores and have managed to find older pieces. So disappointing the manufacture has cheapened/changed what was once a fabulous can't-live-without product.

Orka Wine Pourer/Stopper, Color May Vary Review

Orka Wine Pourer/Stopper, Color May Vary
Average Reviews:

Pours nicely, seals tight, and looks great. Just flip the attached closer and you have some amount of insurance that a knocked-over bottle of wine won't pour all over your carpet. All but the tallest bottles fit nicely in the fridge with this pourer attached and sealed, so no trying to cram a cork back in the bottle. The only downside is that there are some screw-cap bottles it doesn't fit, but that is the same with every other pourer on the market except for foil disks.

CDN Multi-Mount Oven Thermometer Review

CDN Multi-Mount Oven Thermometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this based on the Cook's Illustrated review. The first thing I noticed is the hanging hook doesn't fit the heavy racks in our Viking oven. Fortunately the magnet mount works well and I stuck it on the back wall of the oven under the light. The third mounting method is a flip down wire stand. I haven't tried this but it seems like it will be fine for a flat surface like a cookie sheet or pizza stone.
Aside from mounting issues the thermometer seems functional. I'd prefer a bigger more readable model that I can read through the oven window.

Tupperware Cold Keeper with Deviled Egg Trays Review

Tupperware Cold Keeper with Deviled Egg Trays
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had difficulty in the past storing and transporting deviled eggs. The Tupperware Cold Keeper with Deviled Egg Trays was the answer to my problem. It has three individual trays, which each hold eight deviled eggs. The trays fit neatly into a lidded container, which seals well. The container appears to be deep enough to allow ice to be placed beneath the trays with the lid intact, though I have yet to attempt this potential method of keeping the deviled eggs cool outside of a refrigerator. The product is of high quality and I expect it to last for many years. I regret that it was made in Mexico, but I am not aware of an American-made product which is similar to this one.

Progressive International Herb Keeper Review

Progressive International Herb Keeper

I use a lot of fresh herbs in my cooking, but they always go bad quickly in the refrigerator -- what a waste. I bought this with the hopes of extending the life of my herbs just a little longer, and I'm not disappointed. My herbs last at least three times longer with no difference in taste nor texture. You do have to change the water regularly though.

Le Creuset 5 1/2 Quart Round French Ovens Review

Le Creuset 5 1/2 Quart Round French Ovens
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I cook mainly soups and stews (they can be reheated over a few days so I don't have to cook every night.) But my stainless pots tend to burn if I leave them to simmer. I love this pot because it heats evenly and slowly, and the enamel is non-stick or nearly so. I keep mine out on the stove all the time because I like the way it looks--the red is very cheerful in our white kitchen.
My first test run was a batch of minestrone. My recipe takes three days as I make a double beef boullion to start, then finish off with the strained stock and added vegetables. The results were great.
This is a heavy pot and the enamel can chip if you drop the top (not to mention ding your floor.) So be careful.

BeerTender from Heineken and Krups B90 Home Beer-Tap System Review

BeerTender from Heineken and Krups B90 Home Beer-Tap System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
ALas.....it seems I as many of the early adopters are learning the pain of the KRUPS BEERTENDER.
I was very excited for this product and my girlfriend bought one for me for my birthday in APRIL 2008.
THe product is well designed and works well when it works.
Problem is...I only used it 2x...and the unit stopped cooling.
One thing customers of this item should know is that you really aren't supposed to store a Heineken Draught Keg in it for more than a day (they say this in the manual) and that you are supposed to remove the keg and put it in the fridge if you plan on storing it longer.
ISn't that kinda stupid and defeats the purpose of such an expensive unit?? Also...it only uses Mini-Kegs that have their own CO2 pressuration built in like the Heineken Mini-keg.....so expect your choice (if any) to be limited.
Anyhoo, I used 2 Draught Kegs in a 6 week period....and the unit stopped cooling. I contacted KRUPS and received an RMA and had the unit shipped in for repair on 6/23/08. After hearing nothing I followed up on 7/24/08 as to the status of my machine, they apologized and put in a rush order to have a replacement shipped after emailing them 2x and calling.
My latest phone conversation (8/19/08) I was told that they had been backordered on the machine until this past week and should receive my replacement machine in 2 weeks....we'll see.
While I like the machine......the rep said that this being a brand new product for Krups they were experiencing issues in servicing of the unit. I am thinking this machine was not ready to be released and that the cooling unit is very likely to fail in every unit.
I would have to say there might be a better options if you plan to use this type of dispenser regularly.
UPDATE (9/21/08):
Received my warranty replacement unit at the end of AUGUST. To my surprise.......KRUPS did not repair my machine...they sent a completely NEW Unit!! YAY!
So far the unit has worked perfectly and I have used it 1x since i received it. Hopefully they have resolved any issues they were experiencing in manufacturing so I or others won't experience the cooling failure that I did with my 1st unit. So Far So Good.....there are also rumors of more varieties of Draught Keg coming to the US like they have in Europe....that would definitely make the unit a more worthwhile purchase rather than a creature comfort.

Tupperware Fridge STACKABLES Deep Deli Meat w/Grid Review

Tupperware Fridge STACKABLES Deep Deli Meat w/Grid
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
tupperware is known for their tight fitting seals.
these lids, however, do not fit tight. they pretty much just sit on top of the container. when i contacted tupperware about it, they told me that these lids are not made to fit tight, as deli meats are supposed to "have air". the grids support the meat and the meat does stay dry. it's just hard to get past a seal that does not actually seal.
don't plan on using these for any other food item, other than deli meats.

FIFO Mini Can Tracker- Food Storage Canned Foods Organizer/Rotater/Dispenser: Kitchen, Cupboard, Pantry- Rotate Up To 30 Cans Review

FIFO Mini Can Tracker- Food Storage Canned Foods Organizer/Rotater/Dispenser: Kitchen, Cupboard, Pantry- Rotate Up To 30 Cans
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must disagree with the previous reviewer. I have several of these in my pantry and they do the job quite well. They will take large diameter cans (such as 26 oz. tomato cans), regular size cans (i.e. vegetables) and family size cans (like the tall, 26 oz. Family size soup cans). Their biggest limitation is that they can accept ONLY those 3 can sizes because the can slots can only be created in 3 set widths. For that reason, I use not only this type of can storage, but also the "Cansolidator" also available on Amazon. The cansolidator cannot be used with the large 26 oz. tomato cans, but works beautifully for other cans, including tuna, small mushrooms, small evapo milk, as well as regular vegetable cans, etc. because the cans slot width is almost infinitely adjustable.
I love to cook so I try to maintain a fairly extensive pantry. The FIFO and Cansolidator products in combination have solved the problem of the cans that expired 5 years ago only being discovered when they've become a leaky science experiment somewhere in the back of the cupboard. With these organizers it's easy to see how much of each product you have as well as being assured that when you select a can, you're getting the oldest can.
One piece of advice about the FIFO storage: Decide which cans you want to use and pre-assemble the whole thing, then put it on your shelf. Adding additional pieces to it once it's already in place can certainly be done, but it's much more awkward than pre-assembling.

BeerTender from Heineken and Krups B95 Home Beer-Tap System Review

BeerTender from Heineken and Krups B95 Home Beer-Tap System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you love draft beer but don't drink enough to need a full keg this is for you!
I like my beer ice cold poured in a SMALL frozen glass .... I dont drink enough to warrant a full size type draft keg machine with all the hassles that come with it (like Co2) this unit is simple: just drop the draughtkeg in and your done. This unit has a thermostat setting that lets you set it to 36 degrees , the other unit will not allow you to lower the setting so this alone makes it worth the extra $20.
With the draughtkeg and beertender you get a nice little fridge who's sole job is to keep that keg ice cold and easy to pour... since it has a bottom drip tray you can pour your draught " english " style by letting the first half second just pour out to clear the foam then quickly put your glass in to get a nice pour with little foam - you cant do that when pulling from the big fridge....
What makes it nice is you can pour as much or more importantly as little as you want... like I said I like a small beer glass that gives me nice cold gulps of beer then just pour more - no wasted warm beer just nice and cold PLUS its fun to pour ! Lets face it this is a luxury item because you could just keep it in the big fridge and pour from there but thats no fun! Plus the big fridge is not going to maintain that keg at a constant 36 degrees!
The unit itself is pretty small and very light - it uses some induction type cooling so there is no typical fridge motor its a small fan - now this fan will work hard at first to get that keg down to temp but once its done it gets quieter - its loud enough that you should not put it in an area that is normally quiet .. also since it does not use a fridge type motor it will not work outdoors! It uses the ambient air to help cool the unit - anything over 85 degrees and it will not be able to maintain the temp - so indoor use only.
So to sum up - if you like the Heineken draghtkegs you will enjoy this item - is it necessary ? No , but you will get a much more enjoyable feeling when pouring that perfectly chilled draught. I hope Heineken adds more to the draughtkeg line up like they have in Europe... remember it only works with Heineken so if you dont like Heineken then this item will not work for you...
B95 or B90 ? Spend a little more and get the fancy lcd screen and temp control - especially if you like the cold beer because the other unit is preprogrammed at 39 or 40 deg ... but some people like a warmer draught but the price difference is so little you might as well ' go all the way ' ....
Cheers!

FIFO Can Tracker- Food Storage Canned Foods Organizer/Rotater/Dispenser: Kitchen, Cupboard, Pantry- Rotate Up To 54 Cans
Average Reviews:

Just got two of these and set them up in my cellar.
Set up is quite easy, you just have to snap (force) the spacer pegs into the holes, then twist to secure. I had to use a wrench, as suggested in the instructions, to turn the pegs.
In the sample picture, you can see green cans on the left and right sections, and yellow in the center. The center yellow cans are separated by three shorter pegs. You can choose to put those in, or just use three of the longer pegs instead, which would give you three sections of larger (15 oz) cans. It comes with extra pegs so you can pick.
The cool thing is if your shelf is long enough, you can attach two units together - so you just keep going after you build the first three sections (as shown in the picture) and add the next three on, with a section in between, instead of 3+3=6, you get 3+3+1 (in the middle) = 7. Each unit comes with six extra pegs, three short ones for the smaller section if you want it, and three extra to attach another whole unit to the side of the first.
Each section holds 16 or more cans, I don't know, I don't have that many cans of one type. I ended up putting a [...] case (12 cans) in the top, which means they roll out the bottom, and then putting three or four other cans in the middle. The middle ones don't join the roll toward the bottom until there's about five of the bottom cans left.
The shelves are made of a strong sturdy plastic, and a smart design.
They don't hold the big soup cans (18-19 oz) just the regular 15 oz cans.

Tupperware 16oz Cream Syrup Mini Pitcher NEW Teal Rare Review

Tupperware 16oz Cream Syrup Mini Pitcher NEW Teal Rare
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
- Usual sturdy Tupperware quality.
- Large, easy-to-grip handle.
- Lightweight even when full.
- Cost.
Cons:
- Lid closure.
My parents are in their 90s, and although they like to have fresh water available at all times, they cannot easily lift or pour from regular sized pitchers. Local stores didn't have anything suitable - easy to lift, easy to pour from, and unlikely to leak if knocked over. Amazon had several suggestions.
I purchased from two different sellers. The product descriptions and photos made it difficult to see that they were the same pitcher.
[ASIN:B0002IQ1MQ Tupperware Mini Serving Pitcher, Hunter Green]]
[ASIN:B003MALROI Tupperware 16oz Cream Syrup Mini Pitcher NEW Teal Rare]]
Incidentally, both were shipped on time, and received in good condition.
The color is definitely teal and opaque. The construction is sturdy. The only issue is that the lid does not seal as securely as most Tupperware pitchers do. The lid works by tilting up and down. Opening requires the user to press on the top near the handle. Closing is accomplished by pressing down on the front of the lid by the spout. It is easy to flip the lid entirely off by pressing a little too enthusiastically. However, when it is closed, the lid does not leak if the pitcher falls over.
My parents are very happy with the pitchers as they provide more independence (they do not have to ask for assistance from a caregiver), and the water seems fresh and clean at all times.
