Con: Price (what affected rating) - but you get what you pay for and will provide many years of use. These are glass so breakable. Not as wide a selection as the plastic Snapware or Pyrix.
Pro:Excellent product. I purchased the 8 cup, 4.6 cup, and 1.7 cup rectagles and they stack together nicely, but will mostly be in use rather than stacked away. I was looking at Pyrix but found the lid on Snapware were much easier to use and fit tightly. The glass is more stout than Pyrix. Pyrix is now has some silicone on high end products and but not lids yet- I will hold off on Pyrix until they offer Silicone lids. The clear see- thru Silicone lids provide a much better fit and easier to use than plastic. Anyone can easily manage these lids. Attempting to do away with old plastic storage for everyday use. Purchased at BB&B. The 4.6 cup size will get the most use and is a good size if you want just one. I hope this review is helpful! :)

CorningWare French White 6-Piece Cooking and Baking Set Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned French White for years and years, and they were the first casserole dish I always reached for. We had a mishap, broke my 10+ year old large oval casserole and replaced it with a new full set.
What a disappointment!!! CorningWare has changed something in their process or raw materials. The new dishes have tiny little "pits" in them that allows water to penetrate underneath the glaze. It looks unsightly when serving. The heft and feel aren't the same. Neither is the quality. You can tell the new pieces, as the bottoms have a ridge molded into the base. The older pieces are completely flat.
Using the new large oval dish, my adult daughter removed a full dish on lasagna from the oven and set it on a room temperature (burners turned off)stove top to cool. The dish shattered into pieces, and we had to throw everything out. CorningWare sent a replacement at no charge. The new dish has the same defects as the one that shattered.
I've been shopping at thrift stores and have managed to find older pieces. So disappointing the manufacture has cheapened/changed what was once a fabulous can't-live-without product.

Because I do not like to microwave in plastic, something glass and with lids was ideal. I have not had the problems with the lids seeming cheap or leaky at all and the bowls nest nicely so they take up very little space. I freeze food in cubes and then use these dishes to warm and serve or keep food fresh in the fridge. Ideal!

(More customer reviews)I, like so many others, am concerned about using plastic containers for food storage/heating. I saw these nice glass Bormioli Rocco Gelo bowls and thought they were just what I was looking for, so I ordered three sets. The Amazon.com description says the bowls can go in the microwave to warm up leftovers quickly (with the lids removed). Just what I needed! Except, when the bowls arrived, the literature from the manufacturer says, "Gelo containers are NOT suitable for use in microwave ovens...." Not what I needed! I emailed the manufacturer and received a reply in less than two hours! Wow! I asked if the Gelo bowls could be used in the microwave and if they could go directly from freezer to microwave or fridge to microwave. Their reply stated that "...the Gelo are microwave safe also if you put it from the fridge to the microwave. Remember to take off the lid before putting it into the microwave, and don't put the Gelo into the oven." So, at least I can pack a lunch of leftovers, take it to the office, put it in the fridge, and then microwave. The manufacturer's literature also states that they can be used to store food in the fridge and the freezer, but per the manufacturer's email, they cannot go directly from freezer to microwave. So, I guess if I freeze lunches for the week, I'll just take one out a day early and put it in the fridge to defrost before taking it to work. The lids fit very securely, maybe TOO securely. I envision trying to open one and the contents spewing out because I have to pull so hard on the lid to get it off! I hope not, and I'll report back on this. I'll test them to see if they leak, too. The interior dimensions are 6-1/2" x 2-1/2" deep, 5-1/2" x 2" deep, and 4-1/4" x 1" deep. Remember, they can't be used in the oven like Pyrex-type glass can. But, since I really wanted them to freeze pre-made lunches for the week to microwave and eat, the oven aspect doesn't bother me. Five stars for the bowls themselves, for Amazon's quick shipping, and for the manufacturer's amazing responsiveness. Just don't order them expecting to use them in the oven or directly from freezer to microwave.

Pyrex 6004023 6-Piece Glass Rectangular Storage Set with Blue Lids Review

(More customer reviews)We were pleased to find that these containers can be used for some types of COOKING, not just for storage.
We like the convenience of containers that can be used for baking or microwaving, and then covered and used to store any leftovers, without scooping into different containers.
These containers do not have handles on the sides, so they can be tricky to grasp with potholders when removing from a microwave or regular oven. On the other hand, the lack of handles does allow these rectangular containers to use space efficiently in the refrigerator.
The paper labels/inserts indicate these Pyrex glass containers are oven safe (in a regular oven, preheated), and microwave safe, freezer safe, and dishwasher safe. However, like most Pyrex, they are NOT broiler safe, and should not be used on stove-top burners. There is also a warning against use in a toaster oven.

The plastic lids should not be used in a regular oven, of course. I assume we should unseal and loosen the lid, before we put a container in the microwave. It is BPA free, according to the fine print on the paper label.
The plastic lids go on easily, and fit OK, but are not perfectly tight. I think if I turned a container upside down, the contents would leak around the edges of the lid. I assume that if the lids are put in a dishwasher, they should only be on the top rack, if at all. When I looked at reviews for some other Pyrex storage containers, a few reviewers recommended hand washing plastic lids; they thought the lids might keep their shape better if hand washed.
We have not yet put these containers through dozens of uses, so I cannot yet say how durable they are. I will add a "comment" to this review in the future, if there are problems later on.
We have owned other Pyrex glassware for years. These containers seem just slightly thinner than the Pyrex "Storage Deluxe" containers which are extra thick.
Several years ago, we bought Pyrex "Storage Deluxe" glass containers (with the vent tabs on the lids); they have endured years of frequent use with no chips. However, we eventually had to replace some of those vented plastic lids. We were able to buy replacement lids from the manufacturer's world kitchen web site and/or phone number; I assume that replacement lids for this non-vented type of storage container can also be obtained. We have heard that Pyrex outlet stores may also have the lids. We have not been able to find replacement lids on this site yet.
On the paper labels/inserts, there are lots of warnings, but the print seems small (or am I just getting old and farsighted?).

The labels/inserts say: "Failure to follow these instructions can cause immediate or later breakage ..." I will mention some of the warnings and limitations here, so shoppers will know whether the limitations fit with how they plan to use the containers: "AVOID SEVERE HOT TO COLD TEMPERATURE CHANGES." "DO NOT add liquid to hot dish..." Hmmm, sounds like basting is out. The label advises: "Add a small amount of liquid to the dish prior to baking foods that release liquids while baking."
DO NOT "place hot dish ... in a sink, immerse in water or place on cold or wet surfaces." ... "Allow glass to cool before soaking."
More warnings: When using the container in the microwave, do not use a microwave "BROWNER", and "DO NOT use PYREX glassware items ... to hold or support popcorn bags, microwave convenience foods with special browning wrappers, etc."
For use in a regular oven, the label implies that we should PREHEAT the oven BEFORE putting a Pyrex glass container in the oven. I have heard that some ovens use extra high heat during the preheat step -- higher than any regular baking temperature, but I don't know that with certainty. I'm guessing that the exposure to extra high heat during preheating, could cause damage to Pyrex glassware.
The containers' side walls are sloped outward at a slight angle. Thus the length and width at the bottom are somewhat smaller than the length and width around the top edge.

(More customer reviews)This has to be one of the best deals around, even at twice the price, because it replaces so many other things, and is so durable.
The containers work nicely for food storage, but they also can be used for cooking. They go from freezer to oven or microwave, and are dishwasher safe as well. Pyrex is practically unbreakable. With normal use, this set could easily last a lifetime. At the current price, they actually cost less than plastic containers, which do not have either the durability or versatility.
If all that's not enough, consider the health benefits. Glass will not leech plasticiser into your food, and there's no dioxin to worry about when microwaving.
I don't usually rave about kitchen items, but after I recieved this set, I rushed back to order another. I'm getting rid of most of the plastics in my cabinets today!

I ordered 6 of these and so made the shipping problem described in another review not applicable. The vendor does charge a lot for shipping and handling, but if you order multiple items, it works out great, because most of the shipping is probably handling---in other words, if you ordered 6 pitchers, the shipping and handling is only $9.99! Also the pitchers are very sturdy and heavy, which I wanted.
These pitchers fit beautifully on the inside door of my refrigerator. They don't leach chemicals into my beverages, either. They take up very little space (they are squared not rounded so they fit well all lined up) and are attractive. If you are looking for a healthy option to plastic, this is it. They also have a nice snug lid to keep things fresh. The lid can be turned to an "open" position like many pitchers so that the lid doesn't have to be removed to pour.
The pitchers are attractive and not chinsy-looking like plastic pitchers. Buy more than one not only to save on shipping and handling, but because you'll want more for sure!

(More customer reviews)I had fairly recently invested in a set of Rubbermaid Premier containers when the news got out about BPA (bisphenol-A) leaching into foods from plastic.
I didn't want to invest in more plastic -- even grades of plastic that are currently considered safe. I decided to go with glass. And I'm glad I did.
This set is one of three that I purchased. I also bought the Pyrex Storage 18-Piece Round Set, Clear with Blue Lids and the Pyrex Storage 6-Piece Round Set, Clear with Blue Lids. With these three sets combined, I feel like I have all the containers I need for my family of 4.
I had feared that switching to glass -- although the right decision for me from a health-consciousness perspective -- would be the source of some headaches. I imagined having to be overly cautious with the containers, treating them super gently, worrying that they would slip out of the refrigerator and break, wondering how I would stack them in the cabinet without having them all fall down.
To my delight, this hasn't been the case at all. The manufacturer's claim that the glass is light-weight is fair. Obviously, these aren't as light as plastic containers, but they are very manageable.
Although I find myself using the round storage bowls from the other sets more than these rectangular ones, the pieces in this set are useful for those times when you have a piece of chicken or fish, asparagus, or something with an elongated shape. These containers fit those items nicely without requiring a huge round bowl.
These pieces are not as attractive as those in Pyrex's more fashionable lines, but I would have no qualms about serving from these at any casual meal. They look much nicer than anything plastic.
The Pyrex lids are, to me, an improvement over the lids that come with Rubbermaid plastic containers. First, each lid has a lip that runs all the way around the outer edge. This allows the bowls to be stacked safely on top of each other, whether in the cabinet or in the refrigerator. The storage bowl on top rests inside the lip of the bowl on bottom and won't slide off.
Also, the design of these lids makes them easier to clean. All the Rubbermaid container lids I've owned have had a very narrow opening on the outside edge where the container fits into the lid. These crevices can trap bits of food (usually sauces gone astray in my experience) and can be very difficult to clean. The Pyrex lids have a wide lip that can easily be wiped out.
Other reasons I am glad I replaced my plastic containers with these:
1. No more concern about harmful chemicals getting into my food.
2. I can microwave leftovers right in the storage container.
3. I can wash these in the top or bottom rack of my diswasher without any worries.
4. I can put fish, tomato sauce, whatever into these and not worry about them retaining stains or odors.
Buying these Pyrex sets was a bit of an investment, but now that we're being told you should replace plastic every few years since it breaks down with use, heat, etc., I figure I will make up the cost in the long run.

Wanting to avoid plastic's off-chemicals (BHA), I have searched for glass cookware with glass lids. I tried Anchor-Hocking's, & found the lids rocked without a seal. A-H were heavy.
So, I purchased the Pyrex 12 piece set. Pyrex manufactures this model in the U.S.A. Pyrex has filled my desires for: quality, durability, design, appearance, & food flexability. I have purchased additional 4.8cup Pyrex container from Target for $9.99.
In my refrigerator, their square shape conserves space when packing & stacking. The empty glass containers nest for storage. The glass lids rest on top of another, without easily sliding. The silicone (red) seal is: 1.)well attached/glued to the glass lids, 2.)resist stains, 3.)has a small gap to vent steam, 4.)keeps the glass lid from sliding when I shift an oven-hot container to the table, 5.)food does not dry-out in the refrigerator.
The red plastic-lids snap tightly. Pyrex states the plastic-lids are microwave & dishwasher safe, but not oven safe. I have NOT used the plastic-lids, though I may? Thus, I haven't tested the plastic-lid's water-tight abilities when turned-over, in an automobile's floorboard.
Problems? 1.)Stirring in a square container makes for spills. 2.)The smaller 1.9cup has capacity limits. 3.)Pyrex, will you expand range to larger sizes? Offer this product in a round shape with a circular openning?

Frigoverre Glass Pitcher Review

(More customer reviews)I've given the pitcher four stars because it meets my needs as far as capacity, durability and appearance. It would have gotten five stars if the instructions gave clear directions on how to use the lid and if the handle, as other reviewers have pointed out - wasn't so close to the pitcher, making it awkward to pour. Contrary to some reviewer's comments, I haven't had any problem with spillage when beverages are poured.
I purchased the pitcher even though there were some very critical reviewer comments about the lid. At the time, I discounted them, figuring the reviewer's weren't following instructions. After spending an hour or more fruitlessly trying to get the lid to work, I was angry and frustrated. The next day, I took the lid apart and studied how the lid/pitcher seal was supposed to be made, and that was when I discovered, more or less by accident, the secret to making the lid work. Since then the lid has worked just fine (by the way, the lid must be removed prior to pouring).
Here's the technique: With the center piece screwed into the outer piece and in the open position (that is, the center piece bar is resting against the "open" tab on the top of the outer piece), pull the rubber ring over the bottom edge ridge so it rides in the groove formed where the ridge meets the bottom of the outer piece. The next step is crucial (yet isn't described in the instructions - an unforgivable omission given the complaints about the lid failing to seal properly). Holding the outer piece of the lid by its serrated edge, place the lid on to the top of the pitcher so the rubber ring is in full contact with the top of the pitcher rim, then rotate it clockwise while gently but firmly pushing down on it until the bottom of the outer lid piece is in complete contact with the pitcher's rim. The rubber ring is now deep enough into the pitcher to form a tight seal with the side of the pitcher when the center is rotated clockwise a half turn to the closed position (to the "closed" tab), causing the rubber ring to expand outward and create a strong seal. You'll find that at room temperature, the rubber ring will encounter some resistance as it is pushed into position prior to closing; however, when cold (after sitting in the refrigerator) there is no resistance. You'll be amazed at how easy the lid works when the ring and glass are cold.

Pyrex 6022369 Storage 14-Piece Round Set, Clear with Blue Lids Review

I had been using plastic Gladwear, Ziploc, and Rubbermaid containers, but had several problems with them:
1. Storing tomato sauce and then re-heating it in the container dyed them a weird shade of orange.
2. They are supposed to be microwaveable but I found that after a few months of normal use, they were useless - warped, funny colors, scratched, etc.
3. The plastic scratched easily, creating chanels where bacteria could grow - eww.
4. I've read multiple articles from multiple magazines quoting multiple studies about how microwaving plastics release toxic chemicals into your food.
5. After several months of use, they were beat and had to be recycled - recycling is, of course, better than throwing them in the trash, but the process of recycling creates pollution and not only that, I'd have to go out and buy more, spending more money, which was what I was trying to get away from. Good for the company, because they got more money, bad for me, the customer.
BUT this Pyrex set is GREAT! 7 containers, 7 lids. LOVE IT!!!
1. I can reheat food in the microwave (without the plastic lid) and don't have to worry about chemicals leaking in to my food.
2. They do great in the freezer - we use one of the small ones to hold ground coffee - we buy beans and ground several days worth at once, then pop the grounds in the small container and into the freezer.
3. It's Pyrex, so it's no big deal when my daughter accidently drops one helping me put the dishes away.
4. I can use them to hold raw marrinating meat, chicken, or fish without having to worry about them holding on to the bacteria.
5. They are dishwasher safe, just put the lids on the top rack only, and they come out perfect, very smooth surface so they are easy to wash.
6. I've read other reviews saying that they look nice too, so they can go from fridge or oven (7. Oh yeah, they are oven-safe too) to table as serving dishes - this is true, if we ever had a dinner party, I would't think twice about using them as serving dishes.
8. They are simple, which I love, because I won't have to worry about them clashing with anything (we are a young family so we have hodge-podge of kitchen stuff anyway so it doesn't matter right now).
9. They "nest" together very nicely - we live in a small apt with limited kitchen storage, but these containers, one stacked up inside the other, with the lids separating the containers, don't take up any more space than my old plastic junk.
I use these ALL THE TIME, I can't say enough good things about them. All of mine are "in commision" right now, except for one which is in the dishwasher. My one complaint is a set of 7 lids and 7 containers is not enough, I need another set, LOL. :-) (I also have the loaf pan w/ lid - very nice, small, but nice, good addition to my set)
