Have owned this for about a month and the bottom section keeps the red wine at a balmy 68 degrees. Understand that the highest you can set it for is 64 degrees. The fans spin but it won't keep the wine cool. Turns out it would cost more to have a repair tech look at it than what we paid for it. If you're looking for a good wine fridge look elsewhere.

(More customer reviews)For the sake of disclosure, we have the VT-32TEDS (not the 48) but they are essentially the same thing.
The positives: It looks great, matches our kitchen perfectly and fits under an oddly sized counter, which is about 3/4" too short for just about every other manufacturer. It also runs quietly, most of the time.
The negatives: Our cooler arrived rather unceremoniously in the middle of our lawn, oddly several feet off the path that leads to the door. I don't necessarily blame Vinotemp or Amazon for this, but is was an omen of things to come.
After hauling it into the kitchen, I noticed that it had a large dent in the back corner, so I call Vinotemp customer service. They said that because their products are securely packed (in a cardboard box w/o styrofoam padding) that the dent must have happened while we were installing it. They did give me the option of shipping it back to them, at my cost, so that they could take a look at it but not guarantee a replacement. Since the dent was in back corner, I decided to just suck it up.
As I moved it into place, I also noticed that the doors were poorly hung and lopsided by almost 1/4". My door fun continued as I went to attach the handles, only to find out that the screw holes were drilled almost a full inch off. Vinotemp agreed to send out new handles, but couldn't do anything about the doors being uneven.
Now I'm about 6 months in and the thermometer on the right side goes out, so rather than displaying the temperature, it continually flashed "LO". Again, customer service couldn't do anything, although one guy suggested that I buy a digital BBQ thermometer and just keep it in one of the wine slots. Since we aren't using this to age great wines and the right side was still some indeterminate level of cold, I once again decided to suck it up.
Somewhere around this time we also started having problems with ice build-up, which would rub against the fans causing them to squeal loudly and I think would eventually stop the fans and kill the motors. We figured out a method to defrost it, but it involves unloading the whole thing, hot water, bicycle water bottles and a lot of towels. Expect to do this 2-3 times a year. I realize that it is a fridge, but this seems a bit excessive.
Most recently, one of the control boards in the back went out, making a really annoying repeated buzzing sound and leaving one side at room temperature. They do sell replacements for this, but in now expected fashion, this was a problem as well. After calling to place the order & give them my CC#, they said that they would confirm the order via e-mail and then send it out. No e-mail, but they called the next day and confirmed the order with my wife. 2 weeks later no part. After I called again, they realized that they forgot to e-mail me the form that they needed signed & faxed (yes, faxed) back so that they could reconfirm and process the order. A week and a half later, I readied myself for my repair project, removed the back panel, but then quickly found out that they had sent the wrong part. Mistakes happen, so I e-mailed the customer service rep, explained the problem and asked if they could send out the correct part. She told me that I would need to call customer service and gave me the number to call. I called customer service, heard a familiar voice, and after checking the phone number in the e-mail, I confirmed that I was talking to the same person I had e-mailed 30 minutes prior. So, after repeating my story, effectively reading my original e-mail, she put me on hold... for 10 or 15 minutes. After all that I was rewarded with the knowledge that the part was on back order and that they would probably send it out in 2-4 weeks.
Given the numerous problems I have had with the product itself combined with the company and its employees, I couldn't recommend this to anyone that I didn't really dislike. This is really a poor product, wrapped in a pretty exterior, so it is a bad choice unless they were dressing a set or staging a house and don't need it to actually work for any length of time. Sorry Vinotemp, I really wanted to like it.

Haier HVUE06ABB 6-Bottle Wine Fridge, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for my husband for Christmas (2007). It's been plugged in and working since late November (more below) with no problems. This is the first wine fridge that we've ever owned so, admittedly, I have nothing to compare it to. I read reviews about other smaller fridges and decided to go with this one because of its size and controls. We keep it on the floor underneath our bar/counter area. It's nice to have to keep those bottles of white wine cold and ready to go at a good temperature instead of being too cold and taking up room in your real fridge.
Only (very minor) complaint deals with the seller- as I said, I got this for my husband for Christmas. They sent it in its original box without any other box or coverings on the outside. It arrived and was on our front porch on a day when my husband was the first to come home, so...he got his Christmas present a little early. ;)
ETA: Have had this little fridge for 2 years now and it's still going strong. One feature I like: the inside light that turns on and off. It's nice to see what's in there without opening the door. In terms of storing bottles, you can't store fat bottles (like champagne) on the top shelf. But that's not too big of a deal. We just put them on the lower shelves.

I think it is safe to assume at this point that there are serious quality control issues with this brand. This time I requested a refund. If the rating system allowed me to give it zero stars I would.

Cuisinart CWC-900 Private Reserve 11-Bottle Stainless-Steel Countertop Wine Cellar Review

(More customer reviews)I found this wine cellar at a local department store and bought it to take the place of storing/chilling wine in the refrigerator. A standard fridge might be ok for whites, which should be served colder, but not so for reds. When reds are too cold, the subtle flavors become "squashed" for lack of a better term. However, my standard fridge accomodates a standing opened bottle of wine awkwardly at best. Also the frequent knocks and vibrations of the standard fridge, as well as light exposure as said to be bad for wine preservation by those in the know. I'm mainly interested in the convenience of having wine-on-demand at the appropriate serving temperature, as I tend to drink mostly budget wines ($10 and under).
This unit is a single cooling chamber (as opposed to some dual-chamber models I've seen, which allow independent temperatures in the two chambers). It has presets corresponding to certain temperatures, which are inconveniently not listed in the manual. However these can be determined easily enough by dialing in a preset program and checking the temperature the following day. (I haven't bothered to do this) The manual does offer you which presets are best for the various varietals of wine (1 through 8, with 8 being the coldest). You can also set the temperature manually if you do not wish to follow the preset programs. There is a digital temperature readout visible through the door when it's closed - clever design, but very difficult to see if the unit is on the floor (where I have mine). True to claim, there is essentially no vibration when the cooling compressor/fan are engaged. The front door has a large window (see picture above) which is dark-tinted to keep the evil humours out whilst you gaze upon your vino. There is an interior light which comes on when you open the door, and can be switched to continuous ON position if desired. As to the previous reviewers comment about the compressor running a lot, it does run more in the first 24hrs than afterwards, but not excessively so. Mine slips neatly right under my home-office desk (close at hand for those bad days!). Actually, this is the coolest room in the house and so the unit runs less in that ambient temp, and hence consumes less electricity. You should be aware that it has exhaust vents to the right of the door handle that need several inches of clearance, so plan accordingly for your physical layout.
I give this model 4-1/2 stars for price & convenience. I have to withhold a 1/2-star simply because the digital readout window is hard to see from a high angle. If I get into white wines at some point, I like this unit well enough to consider purchasing a second one - and at this price, it's at least equal in total price (for two units) as some of the dual-chamber models I've seen, if not a little cheaper.
UPDATE 2/17/07
Well, as some others have reported, the unit developed a problem after about 11 months of service wherein it was running continuously without cooling at all. I called the Cuisinart company, and to my surprise they acknowledged an engineering defect and offered to exchange the unit at no charge for a new one with the defect corrected. There were some logistical trials and tribulations involved in the return, but finally the new replacement unit arrived yesterday and now I'm "chillin' like a villain" once again.
The dimensions of the unit by my own measurement are W 17-1/8" (43.5cm) H 16-3/8" (41.5cm) D 16-7/8" (43.8cm), and the door handle adds about 1-1/2" depth.

(More customer reviews)I too bought this item from another dealer for $100 more in price and am having the same experience. The concept was just what I was looking for, but there is absolutely no quality to the product. My problem started with the upper shelves not fitting properly and the temperature never going as low as I wanted for white wines. I called Haier and they sent out a technican who opened the door, took one look, and told me the insulation was blown out and the unit was not repairable. He then proceeded to tell me of all the problems I would encounter in trying to get a refund. Well, he was right! It's amazing how many faxes and emails can simply get lost at Haier America over a two month period. I am now in my 30 day wait for a refund after refusing an exchange. I will never buy another Haier product . . . a Korean product made in China.
Update Nov 8, 2007: I just received my refund check minus 10% for using the cooler. I called Haier and asked how I could "use" a product that had no insulutation. I now have to wait another 4 - 6 weeks to receive the balance of my refund. . .

However, I did buy this item and it was a real lemon. Google this item before you buy! Be aware that this same item is sometimes sold as a 60-bottle cooler. I wish I had googled it! I found a number of reports from people who had the same problems I did. The item I purchased failed within 2 weeks of installation. The LED display started displaying a code that I could find no mention of in the pitiful instruction pamphlet that came with the cooler. When I googled the code, I found out that it means "low temperature". Sure enough, when I checked, my wine was near freezing! I called Vinotemp and it took them 2 weeks to send a replacement board (yes, they seemed to know all about this problem) and another week to schedule someone from Sears to install the board. When the repairman got to the house, he could not install the board and had to jury-rig something to fix it. That fix lasted another week before it once again, started to freeze my wine. Another call to Vinotemp and another month of waiting. I then got a call from Vinotemp asking if I was happy with the repair they had done! When I explained the situation, the manager apologized and it then took another 2 weeks before another part showed up. At this point, we called Costco, explained the situation, and got a refund. I called Vinotemp to tell them not to schedule a repairman. Two weeks later, Sears called to schedule the repair. Vinotemp hasn't got a clue. I will never buy anything from this company.

I was having persistent condensation problems with the unit, so I returned it under warranty and received a new unit just a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I am having the same problem with the new unit. The plastic tray at the bottom of the unit fills up with water within a couple of days. I have the unit in an air conditioned room. I can't believe I am the only person having this problem, although Cuisinart would have me believe that.

(More customer reviews)The good news is it's quiet. The bad news is it is a bad deal for only holding a bit over 20 bottles. Even their picture shows it with only about 20 bottles..Which of course I didn't notice until I wrestled with the wine bottles for about half an hour and decided to look online. Note their user manuual shows it holding 46. Unless they are talking about the single serving bottles the airlines serve, it's just not true. And the frustrating part is, it's just not worth it to return it. So now I have a really big, awkward fridge that only holds about 20 bottles. Oh, and last the temperature dial only does 'min-max' temp instead of real degrees.

Mr. Patrick, my experience with your company has been like MANY OTHERS on this website. The people I have had to deal with at Vinotemp have all been EXTREMELY RUDE and unhelpful! I received NO customer service at all.
If how I was treated is considered 'superior customer service,' then you are completely out of touch with what is actually going on at your company!
My first Vinotemp TEDS (made in China) had a thermostat that broke within 3 weeks, and the replacement wine cooler (which was also dented on top) broke within 6 weeks.
Unfortunately my second chiller was no longer covered under the initial product's 90 day warranty (I purchased the product in person at your company, not on Amazon). If it were not for my credit card's extended warranty I would be out nearly $350, not to mention my time and trouble, making two two-hour round trips to Vinotemp.
My entire experience with your company has been one big JOKE! Not only were both of my Vinotemp coolers absolute garbage, but the attitude and unwillingness to work with me, or even allow me return the product for a refund, does not even deserve one star here!
I will be purchasing a name brand wine cooler instead. My opinion is to STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM VINOTEMP PRODUCTS.

(More customer reviews)I have a VT-60 which I spent almost $700 for and which died within 2 years. There were no authorized repair places within 120 miles for years 3 and 4. Finally, one showed up within 70 miles. I took my wine cooler there and they didn't even know what a Vinotemp wine refrigerator was. Anyway, they told me I had to order a relay switch in order for them to determine what was wrong with the refrigerator. I have been waiting about 3 months for the relay switch and Vinotemp moved the estimated ship date of the part another 2 weeks again. The customer service representative that I spoke to about this new delay was marginally rude. I purchased a small "normal" refrigerator for my game room for less than $200 and it has run well for almost 4 years. There is something incredibly wrong with the Vinotemp business model which apparently does not include a quality system nor inventory control.

Haier HVF024BBG 24-Bottle Single-Zone Wine Cellar, Black Review

Price: Several web sites were selling the unit for three hundred dollars including amazon. When amazon reduced the price by thirty-six dollars I made my purchase.
Shipping: With the free Super Saver Shipping, the cellar was delivered by UPS in 3 days.
Packaging: The packaging is minimal. There is thin Styrofoam packaging covering each of the four corners and a square piece covering the top. Plus a piece of Styrofoam is inside the door to protect the glass door from the wire shelves. Cardboard covers the four sides and the top. There is no packaging at all covering the bottom of the cellar and there is no Styrofoam covering the sides.
Delivery: I was most concerned about damage to the glass door and the compressor - which were not damaged. UPS delivered the cellar by using a dolly with a very long blade that was wider than the cellar. I believe this helped avoid any damage to the bottom of the cellar. (Remember there is no packaging for the bottom.) But, unfortunately, there was damage to one of the sides. I did not notice it until UPS was gone but there was a small tear to one of the sides of the cardboard - small enough that it looked like normal wear and tear of shipping and not significant enough to be a concern. But there was a small dent in the side of the cellar. If there were even a thin piece of Styrofoam covering the sides, the damage would have been prevented. I took the easy way out and decided to just keep the cellar.
Cooling: The cellar lets you set your own temperature or you can use the white wine button (which uses a temp of 47 degrees) or the red wine button (which uses a temp of 57 degrees). The compressor turns on when the temperature is 3 degrees more than your setting. It turns off when the temperature is 2 degrees less than your setting but the cellar does continue to get colder. I keep the cellar in a room where the temperature is in the mid 60s and the cellar continues to get another 3 to 4 degrees cooler. So, all together, there is an 8 or 9 degree temperature variation.
Noise: Some of the reviews of various cellars I read complained about the continuous running and noise of their cellar. But this cellar is extremely quiet. I do not notice when the compressor is on. And when cooling, it's on for only a couple of minutes.
Vibration: Since this cellar uses a compressor for cooling I was concerned about the amount of vibration that it created since it can disturb the sediment in the wine bottles. But the compressor in this cellar is bolted to a bracket on the bottom of the unit and there are rubber bushings in between the compressor and the bracket. I did, however, feel a very, very small amount of vibration when the compressor is on. To measure the vibration, I put a glass of water on the cellar and found, to my relief, the water was completely undisturbed. I also watched for vibration when the compressor turns on and when it turns off. The water in the glass does show some vibration - more so when it turns off than when it turns on. But this is probably less vibration than when you open or close the cellar.
Warranty: The manual states the warranty for parts and labor is 12 months from the date of purchase. The compressor, condenser and evaporator have a warranty of 5 years from the date of purchase.

(More customer reviews)My wife and I had Kitchenaid's top under-counter, dual zone wine refrigerator installed in our new home as an option upgrade. What a mistake! At maximum cooling, the coolest the red range gets is 61 degrees F and the coolest the white section gets is 49 degrees F....that's with the unit empty! If you load it with room temperature wines, it takes days to return to 61-62 degrees and low 50's for the white section (versus the commonly-recommended 55 for reds and 45 for whites). The Kitchenaid customer service rep informed us that their acceptable operating ranges are 60 degrees, plus or minus 5 degrees...are you kidding? That puts 65 degrees in their acceptable range...the temperature above which reds can age at an accelerated rate. We're yanking this thing out and installing the Sub Zero model, that we've had in 2 previous homes....more money, but this is definitely a case where you get what you pay for.

(More customer reviews)I bought this wine cellar in April 2010. One week after i received it, the 2 top compartments stopped working, warming up the wine instead of keeping it chill. I lost several 1979 and 1989 Bordeaux bottles as a result.
The customer service (A&E) is terrible. After more than 6 months, 100+ phone calls and 4 visits with an A&E technician, the problem has not been solved. I called Vinotemp several times and was told that Vinotemp was not responsible for any failure or any problem with repair.
I have lost a lot of money and time and should have bought a cheaper wine cellar from HAIER.
