(More customer reviews)I bought the previous Avanti 54-bottle model. I had finally decided to write a review, but just found out it was discontinued (hopefully for the right reasons, which were many). So this review may not necessarily apply to this specific (and newer) model. However, the looks, size, and functions seem to be substantially the same.
PROS:
This Avanti wine cooler is good looking and functional. It has a decent size, which allows it to fit nicely almost anywhere in my apartment.
The transparent windowed door allows you to see your wines and mixes well with the rest of my home environment.
The wine cooler has electronic controls, which makes it very easy to use and set its temperature.
The cooler has different compartments that make wine organization easy. It even has a relatively bigger lower section where you can fit bigger bottles (e.g. average 750 ml champagne bottles).
CONS:
The cooler's performance was very disappointing. The fan/motor broke twice within a 13 month period. The first time it started making noises. At the beginning those noises would go away after a few seconds... these seconds soon turned into minutes. A few days later the vibrations and noise were unbearable and wouldn't stop, unless I unplugged it. Soon not even that did the trick. I just had to permanently unplug it. Period. When that happened I decided to call Avanti's customer service. It was poor. It took 3 calls to get them to agree to send someone over to fix the problem. A couple of months after the cooler was supposedly fixed the problems started all over again. This time Avanti argued the warranty had just expired and refused to come back. Fixing it will now cost $250! That just seemed wrong.So, after all my excitement when it first arrived, I am now the not-so-proud owner of an Avanti "wine display" that makes plenty of noise when turned on.
In summary, don't be fooled by the looks of the Avanti line of wine coolers. Unless Avanti has significantly upgraded the quality of its products and customer service, I would urge careful consideration of an alternative. Good luck!

We've used it for all of our drinking water (6 people) for about 18 month and it's been great. Our family uses about 15-20 gallons per week. We've never had a problem with it. It runs perfectly quiet for us. We love the hot and cold water on demand. We don't use the small cooler in the base, but it stays cold. I highly recommend this item.

(More customer reviews)The inner fan is loud and runs non stop. I called the help line to see if this was the norm or if I had a bad unit and I was quickly told that's how they are supposed to be. Based on her quick response I said you must get this complaint a lot. She agreed and said government regulations force them to be made that way. This little cooler is louder than our two full fridges, our mini fridge, and our chest freezer combined.

If it worked well I would not have a problem and it would get 5 stars, however it was unplugged and moved about 2 miles safely, sat for 48 hours then plugged back in...temp stays around 72. Too bad.

Avanti 166 Bottle Wine Cooler (Black) (71"H x 23.5"W x 26.75"D) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Avanti because it was one of the cheapest wine fridges on the market at the time (in 2007) for the number of bottles held. I've come to somewhat regret that choice. Before I start with the problems, I will say it is an attractive cellar. The glass door, the lights at the top, and the shelves look nice. The brown-painted metal walls are similar to regular household refrigerators. The engine/fan noise is definitely present, but it is quiet enough that I keep mine in a formal dining room without a problem over dinner.
Now for the problems:
First, the off-gassing is a serious problem. When I first got it, I cleaned the shelves and the inside fridge walls over and over, aired them in the sun, and left piles of baking soda in it. I still felt uncomfortable leaving my higher priced bottles in it, the chemical smell was so strong. The smell lasted 4-5 months!
Second, the shelving slots and the distance between shelves were designed to only fit the smallest shape of all standard (750ml) wine bottles: Bordeaux bottles (Cab/Merlot/Sauvignon Blanc). With anyone other type of wine, the shelves are a pain. If your bottle is slightly fatter, the next one won't fit in the adjacent wooden slot. If the bottle is slightly longer, you can't oppose necks to stagger bottles in the back row. So instead of 11 bottles on shelf, you may only get 7 to 9 and they roll around since they don't sit in the slots.
The bigger problem is the shelves are too close together, so except for Bordeaux bottles, the shelf above your bottles won't slide well, and it scrapes the labels off the bottles beneath it. The worst case is with some Rhone wines (incl. Syrah), Burgundy (Pinot Noir) and Champagne bottles: you have to remove every other shelf to allow enough head room.
All of which dramatically impacts how many bottles you can really hold. In my mixed collection, I can probably store about 100 bottles.
Finally, my compressor quit after 18 months. It was still under warranty but the company will not pay for labor, just the part, and the part is back-ordered for at least a month. To make matters worse, none of our local refrigeration companies want to service Avanti products. We called numerous companies, and they all said it was an "off-brand". Avanti was no help either - they offer no service for the entire states of Georgia and South Carolina.
So, the old lesson lives: you get what you pay for.

WD31EC Tabletop Thermo Electric Water Cooler Review

(More customer reviews)I followed the preparation instructions to the letter and two days later I was getting complaints from co-workers that the flow was too slow and that, most importantly, it was leaking at a mild but consistent rate...and not from the drains at the bottom of the unit but from the seams along the sides of the bottom, especially if it were tilted (we don't normally tilt our water dispenser but I did tilt it and it definitely increased in its pour rate). The unit would just sit there and leak at a slow but, again, consistent and irritating rate. I wish that I had just not bought it but I am glad that we have the old tall tower that this unit was to replace because of its nice size.
Think again before you buy this.

Vinotemp 60 Bottle Wine Cellar Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this item (in black) from Amazon.com and was so disappointed that I ended up returning it. Kudos to Amazon. They paid for return shipping and even reimbursed me for additional packing materials I needed to buy. Now, on to the review.
If you know a little about wine storage, you know that the ideal temperature for red wine storage is 55 degrees (Ideal drinking temperature is 60F). This is important, because if like me, you are purchasing the fridge for red wine storage only, you need to know that only the top 2 shelves maintain this temperature. With the digital thermostat set to 55, the mid and lower sections will drop an additional 10 degrees or more. Way too cool for red wine. So, immediately, your storage capacity is reduced from 60 bottles to say 12 (depending on bottle size).
In the end, I purchased a much smaller fridge, capacity 16 bottles. Because of its small size, it maintains almost the same temperature throughout (top to bottom). When I need more storage, I will buy another small wine fridge. A slightly more expensive option is to buy a fridge with an interior fan (to circulate the air), but these are hard to come by in this price range. If you are really serious about your wine, you'll want humidity control (which this fridge doesn't have). 55-75% humidity is ideal for wine storage as it prevents the corks from drying out and spoiling the contents.
The next major problem with this fridge is the racking. I placed two bottles of wine on the top shelf. The bottles dropped through the racking, and came crashing to the bottom of the fridge. I'm not sure what the interior is made of, but the impact of the bottles left two large dents in the floor of the fridge.
Of the dozen or so wine fridges I've looked at in the past few months, this has to be the worst.

(More customer reviews)Two years after buying the unit the compressor went out. I called their office in Florida and was told by a VERY rude "customer service" rep. that there is nothing they can do. She said the compressor is warranted for five years but I have to have in removed it and ship it to them for replacement. Unbelievably she could not recommend a single repair shop in Arizona that worked on Avanti's. I called several shops and they all said the Avanti's are sealed and I was looking at about a $900.00 repair (for a cooler I paid $650 for) and a minimum of six weeks until completion. I'm buying another unit however; I will never buy another Avanit!

After researching all of the top selling 8+ bottle countertop versions, I purchased the Vinotemp from Costco. It lasted 18 months and stopped chilling. Since I regularly cleaned the fan and vent; I contacted Vinotemp. As the previous review states, they recommended purchasing a new control board. I spent $45 for the board including shipping and installed only to have the entire unit fail to reach any temperature below 79 degrees. It is my understanding that countertop coolers typically last 12-24 months due to the built-in obsolescence of the cooling units. I would not buy this size again and suggest investing in the built-in.

WDP75 Water Dispenser Review

(More customer reviews)While it took a while to get here, my husband agrees with me that the Avanti Hot and Cold Water Dispenser was well worth the wait.
After our old dispenser gave up the ghost after twenty plus years, we looked at each other and said, 'what do we do now?' We tried shopping for another one locally but nobody had what we were looking for and we were, quite frankly, spoiled.
What do we like about the Avanti?
As the poet put it, let me count the ways.
First of all, because of its Energy Saver feature, the Avanti consumes less electricity than our old dispenser which ran constantly. It was also noisy. The Avanti, in contrast, is very quiet.
The Avanti features a neat little safety lock on the hot water faucet, which the old dispenser did not The storage space in the bottom, while it doesn't keep anything cold, is quite handy.
The Avanti's white plastic square design looks clean and nice. Our old brown metal dispenser did not. Also, unlike some of the round dispensers we looked at, the Avanti is not 'tippy'. Since it sits next to the kitchen doorway and a heavy traffic area, this was a real concern.
We also looked at dispensers that pumped from the bottom as well as the reviews and decided they were not for us.
The only CON was a chemical, almost musty, taste in the water for a few weeks after we got the Avanti, but that is now gone.
All in all, we are extremely pleased with the Avanti. It's much, much better than our old dispenser and we definitely give it 5 stars.

(More customer reviews)This is a piece of junk. It can barely keep wine cool in the winter with the heat off. The fan runs all the time no matter what. Furthermore, when the room temperature is a tad bit above 70 degrees, the light starts flashing along with a constant beeping. The only way to stop this, is to unplug it.
The manufacturer offers no suggestion other than saying it's probably the pc. In my mind "pc" is personal computer, not microprocessor which is probably what is controlling the light flashing and beeping. The manufacturer offers no method of getting a unit which is properly working, even though they shipped the original flashing and beeping unit. They consider it yours because you, well, opened their box. This is the kind of treatment that gives a bad name to internet shopping.

Danby 166-Bottle Dual Zone Built-In or Freestanding Wine Cooler Review

(More customer reviews)I did not buy this unit from Amazon (or the seller), but rather bought it locally. My first unit lasted about 6 months, and I thought it was great. Then it started to have issues. Temperature would reset itself to whatever it wanted. This was not good, but not the end of the world either.... Then it started to run constantly. I came down one morning to find condensation running off the front door, the temp read 39*F... Needless to say I had to turn it off right away. After 3 service attempts the unit was finally replaced. The replacement was not able to cool (just the cabinet with no wine) to anything cooler than 78* in ambient air temps of 77*...
I would highly recommend staying away from this product. I also found Danby very hard to deal with. The wait time was always over 30-minutes when calling their customer care.
