(More customer reviews)This is a must have if traveling with a 12V Thermoelectric Cooler, or any 12 volt appliance that you will need when out of your vehicle. That could be for a overnight motel stay or for an extended stay without a direct 12V power source. All you need is a 110 volt wall outlet.
I have used this use this on my Koolatron Voyager Thermoelectric Cooler - P-27 as well as my B & D cooler for quite a few years now with no problems.
This converter is compatible with B&D cooler's, but will also work well with most other coolers and 12V appliances provided they don't have over a 6 amp power draw, " Most are under 6 amp ". This works well for pre cooling your cooler before putting it in your vehicle. It also has a green LED light to let you know it is on.
The Converter will get quite warm when in use this is normal, all converters do it. When you buy a converter make sure it is 6 Amp, much less than that probably won't work on some larger appliances.

(More customer reviews)I bought a Wagan Thermo Cooler, and took it on a long drive, and it drained my car battery dead overnight. Further, it doesn't cool very well (much faster to cool initially using ice bricks), and the net cooling effect isn't that good on a hot day (30°C / 85°F and above). The size inside the cooler is also quite limited given the thick (but ineffective) insulation.
I plan to throw mine away after spending ~$90 on it as it's a waste of space.

(More customer reviews)I use this in my car for drinks or to keep small items of food cold on the way home from long trips to Costco, etc. It's durable, has many pockets, and works great. If you have more room in your vehicle and need more "cold storage" for your trips, get the bigger one.
The only drawback, and I assume this is for all of these type devices, is if you leave it plugged in your car/boat, etc. for long periods of time while your vehicle is OFF, it will drain your battery fairly fast. The longest I've left it plugged in while my car was off was about 3 hours. But I did this repeatedly and it eventually caused the premature death of my car battery in Dec 07.
HOWEVER, THIS said, I have an 05' mid-size SUV and this was the original battery so that also may have contributed.

(More customer reviews)Decided to take a chance on this model despite the negative reviews for it. The size was perfect for our use... road trip with a 1.5 year old. It easily stored a gallon of milk, yogurt packs, orange juice, cheese, grapes, snacks, etc. Bought with the AC adapter to provide cooling at night while we stayed in hotels. Worked great as expected, though the construction seemed to be a little flimsy and cheap.
On the 4th or 5th day of use the cooler stopped working consistently. Didn't work when plugged into one of our car power ports. Plugged it into another one, and it started working again. Got to the hotel that night, and plugged it into the AC adapter. Again, it just didn't work, though the adapter was indeed supplying power.
I'm not quite sure if our issue was the fan (which seems to be a common problem) or the power plug; despite the cause, this became an extremely expensive non-powered cooler much sooner than I'd expected. Returned to Amazon for a refund, and I'll likely steer away from this brand in the future.
Another issue: if you use the AC adapter, the DC plug which connects to the AC adapter get extremely hot! I actually burned myself on my arm after unplugging it. It's altogether possible that the heat from the AC adapter might have damaged the DC car plug of the cooler, causing the little spring-loaded center pin to not engage fully in a power port. Whatever the case, this is just poor and potentially unsafe design.

(More customer reviews)bought this cooler as a gift for my husband. he is on the road all day and tired of drive-thru. he was using a regular cooler and the ice packs just wouldn't keep drinks cool all day on the blistering hot days. my husband loves this electric cooler. he does not pre-chill the cooler before packing it, but all food and drinks placed in the cooler are pre-chilled. he does not have to add ice packs, the cooler does the job. my husband's only negative comment is he wishes the power cord was a little longer.
1st cooler was received damaged, but i called customer service and i had the replacement in 3 days. no cost to customer to return the damaged one.

Koolatron 12V Travel Cooler - D25, Dark Grey Review

(More customer reviews)I will preface this review with this caveat: Auto coolers are not refrigerators. They will keep cold things cold, with help.
My husband drives a truck for 12-16 hours per day. He never stops, so I pack his lunch every day. He carries water, energy drinks, veggies, sandwiches, sometimes pizza, etc. He used a Rubbermaid cooler for a long time, but it was too small. He needed a larger cooler that would fit between the seats of the truck and have more space.
This cooler is HUGE. They make two smaller ones, but since I like to load it up with big ice packs, it's a good size. It'll never actually be full unless we take a trip with it, though. 2 liter bottles stand up in it and I'm guessing that six of them would fit. I load it up with 2 1.5 liter water bottles, a couple of 16 oz lowcarb Monster drinks, plus a sandwich, cherry tomatoes fruit and other snacks and the cooler is still about half full even with the two large blue ice bags.
The Koolatron does the job nicely. It will not cool warm things down well and if left on its own, cold things will start to warm up after 8-10 hours, so I put 2 large blue ice bags in the cooler every morning and they come back at night still partially frozen. Any leftover drinks are still cold.
I also purchased the power inverter so that I could plug in the cooler first thing when I get up. I then load the cooler and the ice bags right before he leaves. That helps considerably.
Is the cooler keeping things at 40*? Doubtful, but it's keeping them cold enough that drinks are refreshing and his food does't spoil. He keeps the AC on in the truck all the time, so the cooler doesn't have to work too hard.
A soft sided cooler like this isn't as effective as a hardsided cooler, so there's a bit of a tradeoff, but it's the largest one I could find that would fit where it needed to go (between the seats of a Peterbilt Daycab after removing the drink holders) and it's lightweight. The shoulder strap makes it easy to carry. By the time I load it down with a couple liters of water, drinks, ice and use the bungee on top for his paperwork, it weighs about 30 pounds or so. A hard cooler would be impossible.
The outside pockets are handy, you can even put ice in the drink holder (which will only hold a cup the diameter of a soda can). There's a mesh pocket in the back that's also very handy.
Overall, we're very pleased with this cooler, but unlike the another reviewer, our expectations were more realistic.

Wagan 5 Amp AC to 12V DC Power Adapter Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit to power the Koolatron Compact Kooler, which uses 4.5 amps. I initially purchased the Sunforce 55520, which was a big mistake. It arrived dead on arrival and after some research I realized that it never really had the power to run the fridge, even though it boasts 5.8 amps.
However, this worked great right out of the box. My first impression was that it was definitely much heavier than the Sunforce 55520 and it seemed to cool the fridge effortlessly. I precooled my fridge for about 12 hours before plugging it in the car and the adapter never got hotter than lukewarm.
If you need an AC/DC Power Converter that will power a device upto 5 amps, go with the 5 Amp AC to 12V DC Power Adapter. You won't regret the decision.

Koolatron Compact Kooler Review

We bought the Koolatron Kooler a year ago and find it very useful to keep food and drinks cool while traveling.
To use this effectively both the cooler and the items to be placed in it should be cool to begin with. The empty unit will cool about 10 degrees an hour to about 40 degrees lower than the ambient temperature around it, and maintain it's pre-cooled contents at that temperature as long as it powered on. Warm items placed in a warm cooler take much longer to cool, (the manual says up to 12 hours or longer).
We purchased the optional AC power adapter, so the night before we leave on a trip we plug the unit in and pre-cool it. The morning we are leaving we load it with a few soda and water bottles that have been cooled in the refrigerator. We also put in 2-4 plastic food containers that have been chilled in the refrigerator. One or more of those we fill with ice. The more space that is filled with cool/cold items the better the cooling process for everything else (less infiltration of warm air every time the unit is opened, less warm air to cool).
On our trip we then have cool soda and water to drink, and ice to use with the soda in a cup kept in the cup holder. If we add a room temperature soda or bottle of water the presence of the other cool/cold items filling the rest of the unit together with the action of the unit will cool that within an hour or two.
The plastic boxes are mostly for use with "doggie bag" contents from restaurant meals. Assuming an ambient temperature around the unit of 75 degrees, if the other contents were already cooled to the 35 degree temperature produced by the 40 degree cooling capacity of the unit, a room temperature container of food will be below 45-50 degrees within a couple of hours . We usually have dinner left overs for lunch the next day, certainly within two days.
The unit fits nicely in our sedan behind the drivers seat (assuming there is no passenger in the back seat that needs that leg room) and is easily reached from the front passenger seat over the console between the bucket seats.
At night we take the unit into our motel room and plug it in with the optional AC power adapter. The unit cannot be left plugged in to the cigarette lighter in the car for more than 4 hours or it will run the car battery down.
There is an optional battery saver adapter that will shut off the unit if it overtaxes the car battery. (Buying that is the reason I have returned to this item on Amazon a year later.) That will allow us to leave the unit plugged in when we leave the car for an indeterminant period of time that could be more than 3-4 hours. But after 4 hours or so the unit will shut off to protect the car battery and the contents will start to warm. So, if it is in a warm place we still can't be gone much longer than 4-5 hours if we want to keep food edible.
Finally, I keep an ordinary indoor/outdoor thermometer in the unit so that I can tell what the temperature in the unit is and am comfortable that food has not been subjected to temperatures that would make it unsafe to eat. (I think the manufacturer should build that in to the unit.)

(More customer reviews)Bought this adapter to work with the Koolatron P-20 cooler (/warmer), but unfortunately after 30 minutes of cooling indoors it began to emit a burned resistor smell. And when I picked it up, it was very hot to the touch. Not good signs, from my experience.
Comparing it to my AC-to-DC adapter from Igloo, it's much lighter and seems to be under-designed. You can't fool Mother Nature--increased weight usually means greater power handling capacity. In this case it just isn't there. Overheating isn't what I bought it for, either. In contrast, the Igloo adapter works endlessly with getting overly hot or giving off a smell. It weighs almost twice as much, too, which seems to be related.
Save your time and money and get something more capable. You'll be glad you did. Amazon has been breathtakingly cooperative in this matter, by the way, at least so far. Free return shipping and emailed labels are the way it should be done.

(More customer reviews)This is a unique product in it's price range. We wanted a deck fridge ready for outdoor use and this appeared to be just that. As always, Amazon service was fantastic but after 3 months of service, the device began to run noisily and quit working altogether shortly after that. We were startled to examine the warranty service offered by Soleus Air and learned that in order to have warranty coverage we'd need to ship this device back to California which cost us $147. This is half the cost of the device and was a big disappointment. I suspect the value in this device will be fully realized if the company returns a unit that lasts more than a few months. If this unit fails again, it will be out of warranty (for what that is worth given the return shipping costs) and we'll likely have a fancy stainless steel ice bucket instead of a powered cooler. The physical appearance and functional design is attractive and the unit was the talk of our summer gatherings just beware of quality and the finer points of the warranty and hope your's lasts longer than ours did.

Wagan EL2260 6-Liter Personal Fridge / Warmer Review

(More customer reviews)I know I was not the only one to be misled by the product discription, and when I contacted the seller about the 'missing wall plug' all I got was the runaround. Be aware this item only comes with the auto-plug feature, the optional wall plug is only if you buy it seperately, that is, if you can find it.
The fridge comes with a temperature display that has never worked, the cup holder is a cheap, roughly hewn soda-can holder that flips open akwardly from the top of the front panel.
I have also found the fridge to be miserably under-powered. ALL it will do is lower the ambient temperature of the room slightly, and if you place items in the fridge that aren't pre-chilled, you're wasting your time if the mini-fridge isn't kept in a briskly-chilled room or car.
If ever I was to regret a purchase, this is definitely it.
To note, I have not tried using the warming feature.

Koolatron Kargo Kooler Mini Travel Refrigerator Review

(More customer reviews)I got this as a sort of "extra" frig for drinks in the summer. However, it freezes up easily and can't be adjusted for temperature. It is lightweight and portable, working well for a drink chest for parties.
Also, the plug in that comes with it was missing. It only plugs into a car outlet--I had to buy the adapter to use it in the house.
Given the choice, I'd probably go with a small refrig that adjusts temperature. However, again, I like the portability of this product.
