Countertop Portable Ice Maker - EdgeStar Review

Countertop Portable Ice Maker - EdgeStar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This little jewel has been a blessing to a small family that enjoys ice cubes in all of our drinks, especially water. The unforseen disadvantage is that you must manually fill the unit with water every couple of days. The advantage, however, is that if you use filtered or bottle water the ice cubes are tasteless. In fact, as the ice cubes melt in water, they remain pure and tasteless because they do not share the air of refrigerator the way an automatic ice maker that is built in does. So the ice melts, but you can just add more cubes without tasting all the flavors within your refrigerator.
Sits on the counter top and purrs away making plenty of ice for a family of four.
Terrific product.

EdgeStar 32 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler with Stainless Steel Trimmed French Doors and Digital Controls Review

EdgeStar 32 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler with Stainless Steel Trimmed French Doors and Digital Controls
Average Reviews:

I purchased this unit, installed it under my counter with a few inches all around for ventilation. It took two days to approach temperature and struggles when the room temp is over 75 degrees.
After 14 months the LED failed. I paid $38 for a replacement, which was sent without instructions. Edgestar service said, "I think it might just pop out." It actually is screwed in from behind.
By 15 months, I went to get a both of white wine from the 53 degree side to find it was about 80 degrees. Now neither side cools. Edgestar customer service couldn't guess what was wrong. They suggested, "Try Googling small appliance repair and your ZIP code." I was unable to find anyone familiar with repair of thermoelectric units. I should have suspected something with a cooling unit warranty of only 90 days parts & labor and 12 months parts. Anyone want a room temperature wine storage unit? It is pretty nice looking.

NewAir AW-320ED NewAir Dual Zone Thermoelectric Wine Cooler With Dual Temperature Zones Review

I looked everywhere from Costco to Wine Stores trying to find a perfect wine cooler before a friend suggested Amazon. That's where I came across the NewAir AW320ED. This is a VERY nice unit! I previously purchased the Cuisinart before this one, but sent ended up returning it since it was so loud. I bought this one, and I couldn't be happier. It has a lot of great features that the Cuisinart did not and, in my opinion, looks nicer.
First, its very quiet compared to the Cuisinart. It has dual zones so I can store my growing collection of both red and white wines. I love that it doesn't make more noise as my refrigerator. It also has screw-in feet that can be used to level it. This was particularly helpful with the textured travertine floor in my kitchen. Although, it's not a big deal unless your floors are not quite level like mine.It has a nice LED light on the interior that is much brighter than the Cuisinart light. It cast a nice blue ray so I can easily find my wine for the night. I really like the touch screen controls as well. The temperature ranges are easily controlled with a touch of a button. It was also super easy to setup.
The unit even included a one year warranty, which help make my decision to purchase the unit. So far it has been about 5 months since I've had the cooler, and my wife and I are really pleased.
For about the same price as the Cuisinart, this is a much better unit. Buy it!

Bought the cooler in March 2009. It worked well until a week ago, then the upper compartment went dead (no light, no cooling)and the lower compartment started emitting a ticking sound. Wrote to the company, here is their reply:

EdgeStar 21 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler- Digital, Stainless Steel Review

EdgeStar 21 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cooler- Digital, Stainless Steel

When this unit was working it worked well. The problem is that it failed in less than one year of use. The top zone now fails to control the temp. We have it set to 60 but the actual temp is 45. We bought the unit via Compact Appliances seller. We opted for a 2 year extended service plan but the problem is that there are no EdgeStar service centers in South West Florida. Compact Appliances failed to tell us that. Our recommendation is to stay away from this model from EdgeStar or avoid EdgeStar completely. The Repair Master Service Plan is useless because they can't find a service provider that will fix the unit.

NewAir AW-180E 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler With Touch Screen Review

NewAir AW-180E 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler With Touch Screen

I've only had this wine fridge for a short time, so I can't comment on its reliability (our last one which we purchased at Lowes lasted about 6 months). It looks good, is a convenient, compact size and seems to work well. But there's no way you can fit 18 bottles in it unless they're slim - such as the standard Bordeaux and Alsace shapes. The chubbier Burgundy size and anything larger just won't fit. The only way to get them in is to remove every second rack and make sure you lie slim and chubby bottles side by side. Makes it closer to a 10-12 bottle fridge.

NewAir AW-281E 28 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler With Chrome Plated Racks Review

NewAir AW-281E 28 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler With Chrome Plated Racks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this unit for roughly 1 month now and have been relatively satisfied. Before I purchased the unit, I had read a number of reviews of this unit and several other units from other manufacturers and had decided that this one would be best suited to meet my needs within my price range.
With respect to initial research, I obtained most of my information either from other customer reviews or by calling customer service directly. Customer service was extremely helpful in detailing the unit's internal dimensions and technical characteristics, as well as explaining the Repair Master warranty in more detail. They were also kind enough to send me a PDF version of the user manual so that I could review it before purchase (since the link on the website was broken).
As previous reviewers have noted, the shelves are closely spaced, so larger bottles with wider diameters or that are taller (internal depth of roughly 13") may not fit. I purchased the unit expressly to house champagne. What I ended up doing was removing the bottom 3 shelves so that I could store the champagne upright without damaging the labeling. In doing so, I can store 8 or 9 champagne bottles in the bottom with ease, with the upper racks still available to store red wine or beer as the mood strikes me.
Temperature regulation seems fairly constant. I have not done an independent check of the temperature sensor. As the manual notes, the unit should be allowed to stand for 2 hrs after shipment/moving to reduce the possibility of a malfunction of the cooling system. I have already moved once and was surprised to discover just how true this statement was. Prior to the move, I had set the cooler to 54. I then unplugged the unit and moved it to my new place (which took me 30 minutes to an hr). I immediately plugged it back in to make sure the bottles didn't heat dramatically. The unit then settled to 56. I'm assuming the reason is exactly what was described in the manual. After a period of 2 days, it then returned to 54 (without me ever touching the temperature controls). The manual does tell you to transport the unit upright when moving (I had it on its side since that was the only way it was fitting in my car). Just something to keep in mind.
In terms of the time it takes to get down to the desired temperature, it will definitely take a while initially. When I first received the unit, I set it to 54 with the cooler empty just to make sure it would work. That took a matter of a few hours. I then filled it with 8 bottles of champagne and red wine. With an ambient temperature (and presumably bottle temperature) of about 78, it took somewhere around a day and a half to get back down to 54.
Once the unit gets down to 54, opening the door to remove a bottle seems to cause it to shoot up to as high as 60, before it cools itself back down.
The door handle does have to be attached by you, the user. This isn't stated in the manual. However, I was prepared for this from reading other reviews. I did receive both screws and had a good idea of where to look beneath the magnetic strip for the screwholes.
The wire racks are metal and removable. Plastic clips on the interior of the unit prevent them from sliding out too far. It may take a little force to bend the clips slightly to create enough clearance to remove the metal racks from the unit. Not something I would advise doing often, considering they are plastic, but they seem durable enough to withstand such action every now and then.
There is a little blue light on the interior at the top of the unit which can be controlled by a light switch on the front of the unit. The manual states turning it on can cause temperature variations within the unit. I just leave mine off and have never verified just how much it causes the temperature to vary.
There is a filter in the back of the unit that fits loosely in a slot. I don't believe I ever saw any mention of it in the manual. The only reason I bring it up is because it can fall out rather easily if the unit is flipped on its side (which I did during moving).
With regards to noise, the unit is not silent, but it is not loud either. When I first turned it on, the hum surprised me, but I quickly got used to it and don't even notice it now.
As for maintenance, I have yet to clean the water reservoir. From reading the manual, it doesn't sound hard. Additionally, the troubleshooting section of the manual does detail a list of common problems the unit may experience. I had to call customer service to get some clarification as to which of those problems were covered by warranty and what the most common issues were, as well as how they could be addressed. They were very up front and I was very comfortable with the apparent relative ease of maintenance prior to making my purchase.
All in all, even though it has only been a month, I have been quite satisfied with my purchase. I knew exactly what I was getting into and the unit has most definitely delivered. Everything still works just fine and I have no complaints.

Kalorik WCL-20629 Thermoelectric Dual-Zone 18-Bottle Ventilated Wine Cooler Review

Kalorik WCL-20629 Thermoelectric Dual-Zone 18-Bottle Ventilated Wine Cooler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this wine refrigerator in September. It ran without issue until February. Yes, a whole 5 months. At which point, it stopped working. Period. Will not turn on. Thus, I now have intimate knowledge of the "warranty" program. The warranty program is shoddy, at best. You have to provide the original receipt of purchase for Kalorik to evaluate (having original shipping box and label is inadequate). If they evaluate the receipt and determine that the product is under warranty, the purchaser (YOU) then has to pay the shipping costs to ship the product to Miami. The packing weight of the refrigerator and original box is 45 pounds. At this point, they will try to fix it or replace it. There is no additional warranty on the fix. Also, if they claim to have fixed it and it does not work when you get it back, you get to pay to ship it back to them again. If they cannot fix it, they ship you another one -- maybe refurb, maybe new -- I could not get clarity on what they would replace it with. However, that "other" unit does not come with an additional year of warranty. The person who provided these details on the warranty program is the person that answers the phone at Kalorik. It took no less than five times of being put on hold so that she could go ask someone else for clarity on my warranty questions. She could not email me a complete description of their warranty program, so it is anyone's guess if this program is administered the same way every time.
Bottom line -- cheap, shoddy, Chinese made product with some kind of warranty that requires you to pay half as much as the product to ship it to Miami to have it fixed. I would not buy this product again, or recommend it to anyone. Go with a wine refrigerator from a reputable company with written warranty policies.

With its 18-bottle capacity, this dual-zone wine cooler stores wine at optimal temperature and humidity conditions, keeping it safe and ready to enjoy. Digital controls with an LCD display make it easy to set the temperature. The unit's upper zone offers two levels for up to six bottles of white wine and can be set from 44-1/2 to 53-1/2 degrees F, while its lower zone offers four levels, each level holding up to three bottles of red, and can be set from 53-1/2 to 64-1/2 degrees F. Both insulated temperature zones supply scalloped chrome shelves to cradle and display the bottles of wine. Furthermore, the unit comes with a state-of-the-art thermoelectric cooling system, which avoids vibrations caused by compressor cooling systems. Such vibrations disturb the sediments in wine, disrupting the aging process. Without vibration, stored wine can age naturally. Even more, the unit's environmentally friendly thermoelectric cooling system uses no Freon, which can be harmful to the planet; offers energy efficiency, only using about as much energy as a 75-watt light bulb; and delivers ultra-quiet operation with minimal noise generated from the only moving part--the ventilating fan. Other thoughtful details include soft interior LED lighting with an on/off switch, automatic defrost, a Celsius and Fahrenheit switch, a flush-back design, an adjustable level foot, and a door with double-paned tempered glass and metallic-silver trim. The wine cooler measures 19-2/7 by 13-1/2 by 26 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Deluxe 28 Bottle Wine Cooler Refrigerator Review

Deluxe 28 Bottle Wine Cooler Refrigerator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am writing this review because of my extreme dissatisfaction with the Edgestar wine refrigeration product line and Compact Appliances. Two years ago my husband purchased the Edgestar 28-bottle fridge for me as a Christmas gift. We were so excited with the product that we raved to everyone about it. The following Christmas it was all my parents wanted. We purchased the smaller 16-bottle Edgestar for them. Not two weeks later ours died (right after the one-year warranty). My husband is quite handy and called to purchase various parts to repair the unit--over $100 worth--to no avail. We were devastated to throw away a brand new unit just one year after our purchase. I spoke with my parents last night and found to their utter disappointment now theirs has died too--just one year after we purchased it for them. This is TWO units that died immediately after a one-year period! These products are not inexpensive and were a costly investment to preserve our favorite wines. We are disappointed in the quality of the items and have vowed to never purchase again from Compact Appliances. We are also planning to warn all of our wine-loving friends in the wine classes we attend to not purchase the products as well. What a disappointing Christmas!

Wagan EL2260 6-Liter Personal Fridge / Warmer Review

Wagan EL2260 6-Liter Personal Fridge / Warmer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know I was not the only one to be misled by the product discription, and when I contacted the seller about the 'missing wall plug' all I got was the runaround. Be aware this item only comes with the auto-plug feature, the optional wall plug is only if you buy it seperately, that is, if you can find it.
The fridge comes with a temperature display that has never worked, the cup holder is a cheap, roughly hewn soda-can holder that flips open akwardly from the top of the front panel.
I have also found the fridge to be miserably under-powered. ALL it will do is lower the ambient temperature of the room slightly, and if you place items in the fridge that aren't pre-chilled, you're wasting your time if the mini-fridge isn't kept in a briskly-chilled room or car.
If ever I was to regret a purchase, this is definitely it.
To note, I have not tried using the warming feature.

Had the 118 can refrig for 1 month. Couldn't handle the whistle from the compressor. Had to pay to send it back. They said they didn't hear a thing. It was returned damaged. Cost me $110 extra for all this and now I have to get rid of it. I have to turn it off in order to speak with my guests. I turn it off when I'm in the room. When I talked with the service people on the phone, they said if they exchanged it I would probably still have the same problem... Don't buy any edgestars
