(More customer reviews)I wish I had paid more attention to the product description. I was more focused on price and didn't pick up on the fact that the scale was Celsius instead of Farenheit. Might have chosen a different thermometer had I paid more attention. Outside of my preference for a Farenheit scale, the thermometer was reasonably priced, is accurate and works just fine.

(More customer reviews)I bought this item for my husband for Christmas 2008. It works great and extends the life of wine enabling you to have a glass of white or red or preserve two reds. The "malfunctioning" of the air seal mentioned is not really a malfunction if you push one of the tops down. It will continue to try to suck the air out of a bottle that's not there. Also, you need to remove the foil at the top of the bottle so it can seal properly. I'm surprised that one customer had a hard time with Wine Enthusiast. I had some questions for them regarding this unit and they were very helpful. Very satisfied with this product.

Waring Pro PC100 Wine Chiller Review

(More customer reviews)The problem isn't with the unit taking a long time to chill a bottle of wine, the problem is that it doesn't chill a bottle of wine.
I put a bottle of room temperature Chablis in, and selected Chablis from the list of white wines. The unit said it would chill it to 46 degrees, and indicated that the starting temp was 77. That was my first concern, because the bottle was room temperature, and room temp was 70. The unit took more than 30 minutes to get the bottle to the desired temp (according to the units thermostats), but when I opened the bottle, the wine was probably a bit warmer than a pinot should be served at. I turned the unit off, placed the bottle back in (using the accompanying sleeve both time, btw), and this time the starting temp read 61 degrees. In other words, it disagreed with itself...
Soo...I chilled it again, for another 20 minutes, and upon reaching 46 (again) the bottle was no cooler than it was before.
I don't understand how these are selling. They are probably good for bringing room temp reds down to the appropriate serving level, but this simply does not chill white, rose, or sparkling wines to the desired temperature. So it's great, I suppose, for someone who doesn't have a wine refrigerator, or a cellar, but who wants to drink red wines at the appropriate temperature. It's terrible for anything other than that.
This is as disappointed as I've ever been with a product before.

(More customer reviews)I was really excited to get this Oster Wine Chiller! Imagine just simply placing your wine or champagne bottle into this chiller and pulling it out at the perfect serving temperature just minutes later?
NOT.
This device requires a "couple of handfuls of ice" and then you also pour water into it from a pitcher (not supplied, of course).
It takes 20 minutes for an adequately cold pinot grigio or other whites best served very chilled.
Additionally, the instructions really reccomend that you repeat the process with new ice and water for each additional bottle.
In my freezer, I can chill several bottles in 20-30 minutes! Oh well.
I gave two stars because the thing would look nice as a chiller/server on the table (minus the power cord of course).
Bottom line? Definitely NOT worth the money.

Vacu Vin Stainless Steel Wine Saver Gift Set Review

(More customer reviews)This stainless version of the popular winesaver includes two non-drip pouring spouts. The stainless look is perhaps worth a few dollars more than the cost of the plastic models.
Looking at the reviews of this an other Vacuvin products, you see reports that are deeply contradictory. It's interesting that there is such a divergence of experience with such a simple product. The ideas behind Vacuvin are pretty simple.
First, air is the enemy of an open bottle of wine. Bacteria in the air want to turn alcohol into vinegar. The air itself oxidizes and dulls the taste of all but the most robust wines.
Second, you can remove some of the air with a simple pump and thereby slow down the rate at which wine deteriorates.
Why then, do we have both no-star and five-star reactions to this product?
Maybe the biggest source of disagreement is expectations. Vacuvin slows the deterioration of wine in the bottle, but it doesn't stop it.
Another possible reason for all the disagreement might be a question of temperature. The biochemical reactions that kill your wine are temperature sensitive. They proceed faster when the wine is warm and slow down when it's cool. Putting a pumped-out bottle in the refrigerator or wine cooler will slow down the spoilage processes and make Vacuvin more effective.
A third issue is the way the wine is handled before the Vacuvin plug goes in. If wine has a lot of air dissolved in it by being poured from decanter to bottle, there's no system that will keep it fresh.
