Whirlpool Gold GI7FVCXXQ 27.0 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator with SpillGuard Glass Shelves, External Water/Ice Dispenser, Color LCD Touch Screen and Energy Star Qualified: White Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I've never had a new refrigerator, and did a lot of research before buying this one. I've had it about a year now, so I can write a useful review. I am very disappointed in the design of this refrigerator and wouldn't buy it again. This was a very big expense for us, and I expected better design and performance from it. I just hope it lasts a decade or two!
Things I like about it:
- large size. With our big family, this model is plenty big enough.
- attractive French doors and freezer drawer in the bottom.
- LED lighting inside the refrigerator and freezer is pleasing to the eye and lets you see everything clearly.
- glass shelves inside are easy to wipe down.
- three large crisper drawers.
-touchpad controls on outside, including quick-chill feature and measured water dispenser
Things I dislike about it:
- the door makes scary cracking sounds if you put a gallon of milk in it as it was designed. I'm afraid that eventually the door will break or the seal will be compromised.
- The icemaker reservoir is inside the refrigerator and isn't insulated enough, which means the ice thaws into a clump if you put anything in the fridge that isn't already cold. I've had to take the reservoir out and empty it several times since it can't dispense ice from a big clump.
- ice doesn't dispense on the outside door without frequent jamming. You have to reach up inside and pick out the jams or they melt into a puddle on the floor and in the drip tray.
- The crushed ice option doesn't work properly. The grinder motor chokes on the cubes because it's not strong enough.
- The icemaker doesn't make ice consistently. I think it's because the water line freezes, but many times I've tried to get ice only to discover the reservoir was empty. Twice I looked into the small opening where the ice falls into the reservoir and have seen ice jammed in there. I picked it out the icemaker began making ice again.
- Because the icemaker is inside the refrigerator, things I put on the top shelf near it freeze. I've had lettuce and strawberries freeze from being close to the icemaker.
- The French doors don't swing shut all the way when you give them a push. You have to manually push them shut every time, and verify that they really are shut.
- The door with the icemaker won't stay open while you retrieve things from the refrigerator. It bangs against your backside repeatedly because of the weight of the ice reservoir in the door. And yet it won't swing shut all the way when you step out of the way.
