(More customer reviews)The way it works, you can see in the photo the swirls at the bottom of half of the onion saver. This collects the moisture so that the onion (partially sliced of course) stays fresh. I have tried these "savers" for tomatoes and lemons as well, and they always seem to work very well. And they're quite attractive.
I do find that they do best on about the second shelf of the refrigerator, and putting them in the crisper is not so good. They just don't need it.
One reviewer complained about the odor. I find that, yes, if I put the saver up close and smell it, I can smell an onion odor. But I don't find it so strong that it permeates my refrigerator or sniff a noticeable odor when I open the fridge door.
They also clean well in the top portion of the dishwasher.
I'm very satisfied. It means no more wilted, tanned onion only meant for the trash bin after being refrigerated only a few days. And as I love onions, this is a real boon for my kitchen.
