(More customer reviews)I puchased this exact filter through amazon in January 2006. Now in March 2009, I have to order a replacement filter. I have it installed directly to my refrigerator for ice and drinking water, no other draws. So it seems that these last about 3 years. When first installed, the flow rate through the filter was much slower than anticipated and it took almost twice as long to get water as the original model. Over time I have either gotten used to it or the flow rate has increased due to it wearing out. Removing the filter also caused the rubber o-ring to dislodge and fall to the floor, making re-assembly have a massive leak. Luckily I noticed the missing ring, eventually found it and got it re-assembled for a leak-free installation. Thread's are a little tricky to line up, but once installed and water turned on, no fuss for 3 more years. That is, unless they stop making this model again. I may order 3 or 4 of these just to make sure I have them on hand for the future.
I would also reccomend cleaning out the connector ends at filter change. They seem to have a build up that can easily be washed away. Should help maintain the freshness of the water.

I am completely satisfied, it helps make the water taste and odor fresher. We use the water for cooking and beverages, I live in a part of the country that has extreemly hard water with high iron content and requires water softening prior to final filtration. As a bonus the price was the lowest I could find anywhere and delivery was fast.

GE SmartWater Inline Filter System (GXRLQ) Review

(More customer reviews)This is really nothing more than a taste filter - it does a pretty good job of making los Angeles water taste good - I use this to run to the water and ice maker in my fridge.
However, doing an actual water test, it does not remove a lot of the dissolved solids and minerals.
The overall system is fairly well made - it is easy to change filters and you do not have to turn of the water to do so as the filter head features an auto shut off when the filter is removed.
However, the attachment to the wall is a single screw, and the connectors for the water lines are not as robust as i might like (friction fit essentially - but then it IS all plastic and not brass.) this is probably better to use with plastic water line, as the flexibility of the plastic line should reduce stress at the fitting. I of course am using copper line, and thus my concern over the robustness of the fittings.

(More customer reviews)I wanted to write this water filter a 4 for frustration because it doesn't come with what I needed to install it. After two trips to the hardware store I successfully installed the water filter and it was worth it. My water in my town taste like crap and my refrigerator water filter doesn't help it still taste bad. This filter is the best for the price so far and as long as it last at least two years it will be worth the money. I think my water now taste like bottled water.

Culligan IC-100 Level 1 Icemaker and Refrigerator Dispenser Drinking Water Filter Review

(More customer reviews)I've been using this filter model for two years. I'm on my second unit. It works about the same as other inline filters I've used with regard to taste of the water. It seems not to last as long, but maybe my waster quality has changed, but it lasts long enough considering the price. I do like the quick connect fitting system. My filter is located in an awkward location, and not having to snug up compression fitting anymore to copper tubing is a big help.
I've read other reviews comment on black particles. You have to flush out the filter before you hook up the outlet end to your refrigerator. Just like any other filter. Maybe a gallon at most. I just do it until I don't see black particles coming out. The instructions say to do this as well, but I think it says to use more water. That's just CYA though.

(More customer reviews)After a month of use to get it broken in I believe I can share my brief experience with this filter. First off, installation was really easy. Less than 30 minutes (don't forget to 'flush' it for five minutes). The water I had previously smelled and tasted like pool water. It seemed to have a more than acceptable amount of chlorine going by smell alone. As soon as I plugged this filter in instantly odorless tasteless water came out. Also, very recently some maintenance was done to the city pipes turning all the water in the house brown for a short while. Sinks, toilets, hose, everything that is except the fridge attached to this filter was clearly brown. Hands down side by side comparison this filter does an awesome job. If you want a better sense of security and want to remove the nasties that end up in your water get this filter.
